RMA?

The GTS 450 apparently does pretty well for PhysX

Yeah, Lunawolfy, the video you posted has a 8600GT as the dedi Physx card .

I think the GTS 450 is faster than the 9800GTX and the 9800GTX destroys the 8600GTS. So your comparison and point isn't really accurate. If you know differently could you post something of relevance please as I'm pretty interested in this. :)

I just thought I would update this thread as it is still happening. I need advice to see if you think I can still RMA the 580. I bought my 580 in Jan 2011,

I am still getting this problem. I have since got rid of the 450. I gave it to a mate. I read an article where they showed stats that having a 2nd card for physics was pretty useless and it is better to have the single card doing the physics. In their tests sometimes you lost FPS with using a 2nd card for physics. Rarely do you see an increase in fps. Of course it was games with physics they done their tests with.

The issue I have with the 580 has taken a strange twist. I have noticed that it matters who made the game. Now this may sound weird but it is happening. It is only games from Codemaster where this happens. At first I did not notice the Codemaster connection because it is only the odd game I have installed where it happened. I would say a good 95% of all games I have installed have worked. Then one day I noticed that it is always a Codemaster game when I get the “exe has crashed....” error message. I never get this exe error message with any other games or programs. It’s only with Codemaster games.

As I did I not know anybody with a good enough PC to test my 580 on I was reluctant to RMA the 580. I thought it would be too weird to have the reason for the RMA as I cannot play Codemaster games. I also thought just because the 450 was running the games ok does not prove the 580 at fault. It may have been something wrong with the motherboard.

I have since changed motherboard. Yesterday I changed to an Asus Maximus V Gene. I installed the motherboard and I was able to boot into Windows straight way. I went from an Asus P8P67 Pro to the Maximus V Gene. Although I could boot into Windows I did format the hard drive and do a fresh install of Windows 7. I have also just updated to the latest BIOS. After installing Windows 7 I then installed the latest motherboard drivers from the Asus website. I then installed all windows updates. I followed this by office and all its updates. Then finally installed all the progs I use. I have seen using the PC since 7PM yesterday with no problems. I have all my progs, drivers, updates etc installed.

So now was the perfect time to test my issue with the 580. I have just installed Dirt 2. I did the Dirt and games for windows lives updates. I got to the press enter screen. Just as I was about to press enter I got the exe error message. I can get this exe message at various points in the game but always within about 2 – 3 minutes. Sometimes I can get as far as about 30 seconds into the a race itself. It is very strange how it is only and always Codemaster games.

So now I have changed motherboard and it is still happening I don’t feel so stupid using I cannot play Codemaster games as the reason for the RMA. I as I have said it only happens with Codemaster games and so far has happened with every Codemaster game I have tried.

Have you installed the 1.1 patch for Dirt 2 >> http://www.gamershell.com/download_56748.shtml

Who would I contact for the RMA overclockers or the card manufacturer?

Thanks for the reply. I already have the update installed.
Maybe worth trying to RMA, pity you can't try it in someone elses PC.

Have you tried running Heaven 3.0 benchmark? See if it runs/artifacts... What brand/manufacturer is the GTX 580?
