Road bike advice

in all honesty i don't mainly because I'm rubbish at anything like that and have someone who know who is bike mechanic and doesn't little bits on the side for cheap. are there any issues with maintenance of camapg over shimano or is really much of a munchness. and is there really anything in it between athena and ultergra. thanks for advice

It's much of a muchness, apart from the tools being expensive.

The mechanisms are different, and will feel a bit different, so it's worth trying campagnolo out if you can before jumping for it, in case you don't like it. Performance wise I doubt there's much measurable difference outside of the pro peloton.

I like Campag other than the stupid chainset designs that require too many different tools to remove.

Other than that I like the feel of it and you can get spare parts for levers easily compared to shimano/sram!

Limits you if you ever get a fleet of bikes and they are Shimano/Sram as you can't interchange wheels etc.

i prefer the look of the campag and the click and the levers felt slightly more comfortable for my hands. i dont think ill ever be in the swapping wheels camp if I'm honest.

Just look at the big brands usual 105 models like the Allez, Felt F75, Cannondale Caad8 105, Focus cayo? or trek whatever model it is.

They should all come in around the grand mark or leave a wee bit aside for pedals/shoes.

If you like Campag then check out the Wilier GTR Veloce but that is over the £1k limit you could put about £375 towards the voucher to get a lovely frame with upgrade potential.

Has anyone I here got a ribble or owned one. I'm still a little unsure whther to for the ribble or not. One mate who's been cycling for years has one and loves them and has has had several over the years recommends them but another who is a cycle mechanic and works in local bike shop doesn't like the and seems the carbon frames are not very good.

Really like look of them and ability to spec up but if not very good would rather spend more to get better spec.

Also when do 2014 bikes normally get discounted as like the cannondale synapse carbon 105 but it's 1889 at the moment in local shop
Thanks

ribbles are well rated :) and carbon frame will be fine for the money you're paying ;) I'm sure the guy will be comparing it to the 4k framesets he probably gets to play with so he's a bit biased.

Ribble carbon frames are well regarded, I wouldn't worry about them. I'd be more hesitant about Planet X carbon frames to be honest, as some of them are older designs, though of course that is why they are cheaper.

Bikes are discounted at the end of the season, so expect to start seeing prices come down in September, October. If you wait much longer than that, though, then they tend to only have frames at the extremes of the size range.

Thanks. I'm sure you right about the frames. Going to have a chat to my mate who's had several ribbles at weekend to see if he's had any issues.

Rang lbs to see if they had the cannondale synapse in stock kind of hoping would say none left and couldn't get any as would have made things easier to decide but they can get a 54 from another branch for me. Think I may organise a ride of it

I'll be buying on the cycle to work scheme so second hand not an option and canyons aren't on the scheme.

Local shop has recommended the rouabix but for my money can only really get Tiagra and would want 105 as minimum
