Road bike advice

Quite a few people from work have already done it with ribble and leusire lakes are fine with it as well as far as I'm aware. Like you saw not technically in spirit of scheme

Technically that's in violation of the terms of the scheme, so it'll depend very much on how much the relevant bike retailer is prepared to bend (and by bend I mean break) the rules for you.

I think a lot more shops are happy to 'bend' the rules for it these days. It certainly seems more widespread than it was a few years ago.

Has anyone I here got a ribble or owned one. I'm still a little unsure whther to for the ribble or not. One mate who's been cycling for years has one and loves them and has has had several over the years recommends them but another who is a cycle mechanic and works in local bike shop doesn't like the and seems the carbon frames are not very good.
Thanks

I've got 2, an Evo Pro Carbon with Veloce and a R872 with Ultegra. A mate also has one of the recent cheap Evo's with Tiagra.

They're all good bikes but build quality seems very variable. My R872 came perfectly set up but my Evo wasn't at all. My mates Evo also need some fettling.
Your original spec is very close to my R872 but I picked Ultegra wheels which seem excellent. If looking at Campag I'd only consider Chorus as Athena isn't much of a step up from Veloce. Take into account consumables are a lot more expensive with Campag too and they require specialist tools.

Thanks gribs. When you say not setup properly what do you mean? Have you had any issues at all or just build quality type stuff.

I suspect more than likely I will end up going with ultegra just like the feel of the campag hoods and the general look of the shifters but bang for buck I'd imagine the ultegra are better for what I need.

What's the ride position like on the r872 in comparison to the evo2

Im still very much torn which way to go and am now toying with idea of using the cycle sheme to but all the components from ribble and get a frame from else where and get some custom wheels maybe as well in cash as advice and comments ive had elsewhere are good components and price but frames not great and after care not best.

What do you think and can anyone suggest any good places to buy reasonably priced carbon frame.?

It was just the gears weren't set up properly. On my Evo the indexing was miles off and the limit screws hadn't even been set. It wasn't really a problem as I could do it myself but I'd not expect to have to. A canyon mtb I'd got just before it was perfect for example.

The position on the R872 is almost identical to my Evo but strangely the r872 is a large and the Evo a medium. They do feel quite different to ride though and the r872 is noticeably stiffer but I've not found it any less comfy.

Thanks so nothing major really. No issues with frame? I really like the look of the r872 and aren't to concerned over it being stiffer just wanted not vastly reduced comfort over the gran fondo. Ribble say I'm a size 50 on 872 and 52 on gf.

No issues at all with the frame. It's still perfectly comfortable even if it does feel all my power goes to the road. The furthest I've been on it so far is 90km and I was fine to play football in the afternoon afterwards. I'm only 5'10 and on a 52 r872 but I need a long top tube as I've got fairly short legs, I would have wanted a 55cm gf.

Getting mega confused now. Tried the cannondale synapse 5 and had little ride and fitted nicely and seemed like with a bike fit would be a really good bike but it's 1899 I think it was.
But still like the value of the ribbles. Can spec up a really nice gran fondo or r872 with campag Athena black or ultegra with half decent wheels for around 1600 mark. Now is the cannondale 300 better
I'd imagine frame is better on the cannondale but it's not even full 105.

In many ways want to go for ribble but one of main factors of new bike is because my current cube gives me pain in my wrists so dont enjoy riding for more than hour as gets too painful and don't want to order a ribble off spec and find it's no better.

Would you not be better off trying to sort your position out on the cube and see if you can fix the wrist thing? Or is the main reason you want a new bike because you want a new bike....?

:)

Ha honestly it's not just a case of wanting a new bike. Really like the cube but have had a full bike fit from very experience bike mechanic and it's better but still get discomfort on wrists. I am a little arthritic due to damaged joints and ligements in past which doesn't help but the frame is one size to big I think. I thiught it was from the start but was advised would be fine and could change stem lengths ect which I have to a 90 but it's very twitchy and still pain
