i get this odd noise coming from my bb/chainset and i can't locate it! only under pressure when pedaling! so annoying.

I think we need a bit more than that to go on. What kind of noise? And is it only in a certain chainring?

It could be anything but I'd check the chainring bolts first, then try standing on a pedal (at the 6 o clock position) when facing the side of the bike and pushing down (to flex the BB part of the frame laterally). If it makes the same noise then it could be either loose BB bearings in the frame or loose cranks.

But yeah, more info plz

Looking at that gear calculator this 11-32 the canyon came with is going to be insanely gappy. I definitely reckon I'll be swapping it for something a bit more sensible. I'll stick it back on if I know I'll be scaling any alpine ascents but I reckon an 11-28 will more than do me. Especially considering the 2 tooth smaller little ring the canyon has over my CX that has a 12-27 cassette.

Edit: Check that weather out for this weekend Manchester peeps! Definitely decent riding weather.

If you decide to get rid of the 11-32 I need one so give me a shout. :)

And the weather looks absolutely awesome, that'll be two weekends back to back! I'm already sharpening up my sock, glove and jersey tans. :D

its a really odd noise, hard to explain it, if something was touching it would be a constant "click" but in this case it sounds like the metal is simply creaking in way when under pressure as if it flexes a bit and creaks?! does that make sense?

i'd like to think its my chainset but i've checked all th bolts yesterday and i think it might be my BB

Did you check the bolts holding the crank on as well as the chainring bolts?
Also clean and grease the pedal threads.

yeah everything is tight and i can actually see it flex under pressure but it won't make any noise, mind you i had new pedals installed like 2 weeks ago and i didn't put any grease on the thread.. that might be the problem! ill take a look when i get back home today.

I've had a really annoying intermittent noise before that I couldn't pin down. it sounded like it was the BB but ended up being the headset. Try going down a bumpy road without pedalling and see if the noise continues. Then try it when sat on the seat but feet off the pedals, then stood on the pedals but not sat on the seat.

That'll help eliminate the BB/saddle & seatpost from the equation. If it still persists when the those are eliminated then it's something related to the frame that's making the noise. It was creaking when the fork flexed forwards when going over bumps.

I'm on 11-28 on my TDF with a 50/34 upfront. There is no way on God's earth you will need a 32 tooth the way you climb.

You laugh, but I'm finding myself changing gear less lately... I must be getting stronger, because for the less steep hills I'm as likely to think "Meh, push harder" as to change gear.

im actually getting faster lately! :)

when i first started commuting 10 miles it used to take me 55 mins(in london traffic) with average speed of 11-12mph

now i fly home in less than 40mins with average of 15-16! :)

and i push in higher gears too!

Yeah, true.

Yeah I'll let you know as soon as I get a replacement.

Edit: Had a sore throat all morning and now I'm coughing up all kinds of weird stuff. That's all I need ahead of a gloriously sunny weekend. Screw it, I'm not going to let it stop me.

Nothing feels better than getting out during the week when you should be at work, but it makes me insanely jealous when I'm at work and see other people riding around!

That's one of my perks of my job, I usually work half day on Friday... too nice a weather today to not go out for a spin.

Got a little lost as I went down the wrong route I initially planned. Oh and it's finally warm enough to switch to short sleeves jerseys... Tan lines, oh how sexy.

I'm working so many Saturdays at the moment that I can't ride then and I'm so tired on Sunday that that's the last thing I want to do :(

Giving up before the day already? I'm sure you can do better...

If any Londoners fancy a ride tomorrow you can meet up with me and oli at 8.30am, Richmond Gate, Richmond Park.:)

Will be heading into Surrey, hopefully at least a 40 miler.

300 feet in 20 miles!

Unfortunately for me its because there is seldom need to around here. Show me a hill and my calves start whimpering before I get close.
