Interesting link, thanks for sharing. I am leaning towards the Ultremo DD in 700x25 now, but I think I'll give the Continental Grand Prix I have spare a try first.
I changed my mind again, and decided to order a pair of Continental GP Four Seasons with a pair of free inner tubes as Wiggle had them for £64 - I then used a £5 off voucher to get it down to £59. Considering I was prepared to pay £70 for a pair of Marathon Supremes, I think they should be decent value for money - assuming that all of the rave reviews are warranted.

Caps. They exist for a reason. I never ride without one for lots of reasons, but in this case, they soak up all the sweat so it doesn't run down your face.

Prendas usually do 5 for £25. Steer clear of the La Vie Clair ones as you can't really wash them without destroying them.

Hmm. Sounds interesting. Do they not make you even warmer with reducing the airflow to your head?

I don't really notice it, or rather I've never felt the need to take it off.

If you want to push the boat out then I've got a couple of Walz wicking caps that I picked up off ebay.

In winter I wear a Giro winter cap or I've got some Walz winter caps that were a group buy though BikeRadar (they have 'SCR -1' embroidered into the back).

Am I right in thinking that wearing a sleeveless jersey on the road bike is going to result in me being ostracised? My tan lines are annoying me...

I have GP 4 Seasons on my road bike - very happy with them. Had my first puncture since in, erm, ages (years possibly) last weekend and I think that snakebite was due to a bit of off-roading at the end of a ride.

Beat my previous effort by 40 seconds. But also got stopped twice by filtering traffic on the final stretch which took me from just over 23mph avg to 22.7mph :(

You can see where I got stopped by traffic (red line) that's really frustrating I was a good 40 seconds ahead for most of it :(:

Interesting to read about the caps, I'm in two minds at the moment (having never used one).

Surely they must insulate your head quite a bit, and not allow you to cool down as much (a lot of your bodies heat loss is through your head apparently)

However, they must stop a load of sweat from running down your face, which lately has been bugging me a lot, especially when it gets in your eye lol!!

I've tried wearing a buff under my helmet on hot days, but it just makes me sweat more. When the sweat drips into my eyes it's not the most pleasant feeling!

I might have to give this cycling cap lark a go.

They insulate your head a little bit, but the cap itself is being cooled when wet by airflow and evaporation.

Heat loss though your head isn't huge, contrary to popular opinion; your forearms are your biggest radiators.

Thin cotton/wicking ones for summer, thick insulating ones for winter.

It's the same principal as wicking base layers isn't it: put a layer of sweat onto the clothing so that evaporation cools you down.
