well with added bits im trying to not go to mental. but around £750 (added the triple group set as i do live in a hilly old place). may go to £800 with pedals just having a mess on their bike builder page at the mo and theres too many shiny things :D

The horrible thing is you could kill someone if you hit them at speed.

Some pedestrians just don't look... I had some guy cross the road in front of me a few weeks back, but instead of walking straight across he walked at this really stupid angle, so he practically walking straight along my lane for a good distance. I'd seen him start crossing from a good distance back, probably about 100 yards, and if he'd gone straight over, he'd have been well clear by the time I got to him. As it was, he was still ambling along in the road when I got to him so I had to go around him and shout at him as I went past. Idiot.

Or, buy a bell...

well after the comedy phone call to my local cycle shop the other day and having a mooch about im thinking of just ordering a bike from ribble cycles come the new year and get something a bit better than the tat they would try and off load on me.

just wondering if anyone's had any bikes from ribble and got any suggestions ?

would be using the bike for general riding and commuting and a 600 mile ride to germany planned for next september.

Come Spring I'm planning on spending about £800 on their aluminium sportive bike with Tiagra groupset and some upgrades on the finishing kit. Bikeradar reviewed it (with old Sora, not Tiagra) in a feature on entry level bikes for under £1k a couple of years back and gave it 4/5.

If you're strapped, they have a couple of cheaper frames (I see loads of people on the blue audax/winter frame) and you can go to Sora and not buy such fancy extra bits. If you've got more cash, then maybe look at their carbon frames, 105 or better groupset, even fancier extras...

Or people could cross the road properly...

Besides, I'd rather shout at people than faff around moving my hands around the bars when I don't need to. As it was, I had plenty of time to go around this guy, but if someone steps out suddenly, I can shout quicker than I can ring a bell.

I know, luckily the child was on the opposite side to me and the mother took the brunt. I waited for the ambulance to arrive but I think the mother knew she was entirely at fault for stepping out into the road without looking.

I don't have a bell any more (not that that helped) so now I just shout at pedestrians that have a death wish.

EDIT: Oops missed a few posts. A standard bell does NOT make any difference. Unless it is one of those electronic 120dB bells the pedestrians just ignore it!

Besides, a bell weighs, what? 20-25g, easily.

Yeah, but if you get an aero bell it will negate the weight. You can also get it in titanium......

Not sure why the cyclists should be taking responsibility for idiotic pedestrians.

Duty of care because they are more vulnerable that cyclists? The same reason I expect drivers to take responsibility for idiotic cyclists.

yeah was looking at the sportive seems nice enough, although after reading that review il probably get better rims as it seems the stock ones are a bit iffy if your of a larger size.

Forget the triple, get a compact.

Trek 1.2/1.5
Giant Defy 2/3 (http://www.rutlandcycling.com/43032/Giant-Defy-2-Compact-Road-Bike---2013.html)
Felt F95/F85 Z95
CAAD 8/9
Wilier Montegrappa

You have loads of options, get down to a few LBS's and test ride some to see what works.

Just a headsup if you're any way inclined like I am.

Either do or don't (depending on the size of your credit card bill!) visit the Rapha website on Monday, as they are having a stock clearance sale :).

Oh dear. What sort of reductions are there likely to be? This could be expensive...

I quite like a bell for the tourists of Oxford, but I only have one on my town bike, not my roadie.

why forget the triple ? im just trying to make sure im not too buggered for some of the climbs here. who knows come the new year i maybe a lot better going up than i am currently.

and yeah its on a deal now but i said in the new year when il have the cash and will be fitter than i am now, after all just getting a rough idea of what to aim for.

Triples make you look like a granny, and cost you 3mph average. Fact.

I saw those too, they look pretty cool.

There is a difference between a duty of care and buying extra stuff. I find paying attention and shouting at 'em enough!

Yeah it certainly will be. The guy I spoke to said a lot of Jackets, Jerseys and Bibs will be reduced.

Because you can pretty much achieve the lower end of a triple w/ a compact double.

Good job I'm only really in the market for a jersey then...

... off to look at jackets then I guess...

wait, the rain jackets are already reduced by £80?
