Campag (and others) lace spokes in a 2:1 pattern to solve the problem of nds spoke tensioning. Not sure who invented it, but Fulcrum is another wheel manufacturer that employ this technique. So on a normal wheel you have a lot more tension on ds spokes, and its more difficult to correctly tension the nds spokes. That obviously brings problems inherent with incorrectly tensioned surfaces that are bearing a load.
Advantages are (claimed) better transfer of power, higher wheel stability/rigidity and reduction of stress through the spokes. The disadvantage is that they're much harder to true.
