Sorry to hear that too shamrock. My mother died coming on three years ago now and I remember cycling helped a lot around that time as it was so stressful.

Not been a good 2014 so far for me. My brother sadly passed away on New Year's Day which has obviously devastated me and my parents.

I'm hoping to get out on the bike tomorrow morning to try and clear my head a bit and take my mind off things.

Sorry for putting a downer on the thread!:(

Sorry to hear that, hope you got out on a ride to clear your head. Thoughts with you and your family.

Thanks all for the kind words.

My ride this morning wasn't quite what I was hoping for! Me and my flat mate didn't arrive at Richmond Park particularly early but he managed to hit an icy patch and took me out as he went down. After that we were a bit cautious and he decided to leave after one lap.

I stayed for another and then went home. About 2 miles from home I got out of the saddle to climb a small hill and my chain snapped! I don't know if it was as a result of the fall earlier. I don't carry a spare link and I chucked the chain in a street bin in anger which means I don't know how long to cut a new chain!

Be careful out there.

I think my bikes are pretty much locked up for January. The weather has been a bit too mental the last few weeks, and I don't anticipate it getting much better. Doesn't help that I got hit by a car January 2013, so I just want this month to pass without incident!

Wind, rain, cold, dark....I can handle 2 or 3 of them, but not all 4 constantly.

Planet X or Merlin it is then! Which one would you personally go for? :p

Going to enquire about maybe swapping the wheel sets on both for ones costing similar amounts but are 32 or 30 spokes instead or 24 or 20.

I'm planning to pick up the Planet X rt58 in March - it's my birthday then! I'll be putting some hand built 32 spoke wheels on it, as it goes.

Dont be scared of 20/24 spoke wheelsets. I have a few sets of Fulcrum 7s which have never had any issues. I'm not light either, around 85kg just now
