That guy on the video seems like a total muppet and tbh he's looking for all of that to happen. Being a cyclist people just don't see you half the time or realise how close they are to you. He always seems to be hogging the road up and some of their overtaking manoeuvres seem to be fine but he hits the car shouting 'WHAT THE **** YOU DOING?' no wonder he's getting cut up all the time. And a lot of the time in junctions and roundabouts you don't just come flying out I always keep a attention on the eyes of the driver if they've seen me, it's idiots like him who get run over who feel they own the road just because they're pedalling and not doing the environment any harm, he has some superiority complex.

Some of them are bad, but I wouldn't think twice if I was on the receiving end of some of those "close" overtakes, they probably happen tens of times to cyclists on London roads and most of them time I wouldn't think twice about it. That bloke seems to expect to ride from point A to point B without anyone interfering with his journey: that doesn't happen in a car, so it's not going to happen on a bike. Sometimes you have to concede to motorists if you expect them to concede to you.

The other video is shocking though.
 
Yeah the other videos terrible. The womans a complete idiot what is she waffling on about? Where was he bla bla where do you think he was under you car.

EDIT: The womans really annoying me watching it again. She's not appologetic at all she's acting as if it's his fault someone that he managed to get under her car, she's acting clueless and naive and thinking that's some sort of excuse.

To be fair though, that appears to be a Cycle Courier and they tend to cycle silly because of getting paid and it being down to time. Just like how the majority of 'pizza bike' and motorbike couriers similarly are often up to no good.

Having watched those cycling videos yesterday, got knocked off today. I'm pretty much ok (lucky), but the bike (specialized sirrus) is not. Most annoying! :(
 
Turned right at a crossroads (joining the major road), a van opposite came into the side of me. Fortunately all slow speeds, bike took the brunt of it. My pedal bit into my leg a bit but the van kept me upright if anything - no-one wants to be lying in a junction in the dark, especially after watching those videos! :(

The driver was very apologetic, couldn't have been nicer really. :)
 
two years ago today that i got knocked off my bike, Just about ruined my life for a year, thank god i am starting to recover (head injury).

It was very similar to the video posted of the car turning right across the cyclists path, except i landed squarely on my head and dont remember much from that point...Scary watching those vids
 
That video is definitely an argument for road cycling third party liability insurance (and fully comp I suppose!). Problem is how do you administer it...make every kid out with his Dad in the street on a Saturday get insurance? Impossible.

I think insurance is a good idea, but i dont think that you could put blame on the cyclist in the video.

Incedentally, there was a thread posted recently on our club forum about third party insurance, i'v pasted it here incase anybody is interested in the options:

1) British Cycling silver membership

This includes £10 million liability insurance (including cover whilst racing), a provisional racing licence which is sufficient for most local races, discounts and other perks.

2) Cyclist's Touring Club
This includes £10 million liability insurance (including cover whilst taking part in time trials and touring competitions), other discounts and perks.

3) Cycle Guard
This includes £1 million liability insurance (including cover whilst racing). Liability can be extended to £2 Million (£33/year) or £5 million (£55/year).

4) Triathlon Scotland
This includes public liability insurance, a race licence (for triathlon Scotland events) and some discounts.

I have British Cycling silver membership, so that includes 3rd party insurance.
