That really was nuts. Wish I had got the numberplate :(
Happens a lot over this way, sadly. I often count the number of light jumpers on my 10 mile commute and it's usually between 4 and 10 vehicles and I've never counted fewer than 4, so it's a bit rich calling all cyclists light jumpers.

I run 42x18 on my fixxie (28C tires) around Edinburgh. It gets me up the hills and I hit 35mph down them again according to my garmin (spinny spinny!). How fast were you planning to go?
Lol, you can't get up to 35mph with 42x18. I can just about rinse a shade over 30mph out of mine if I spin the living daylights out of it on 48x18 :p

I wish my commute was anything like that.. it's basically start-stop for 11 miles!
Urgh, yeah, I know the feeling. My poor knees.

I'm thinking about swapping the 17t rear for a 16t tonight.

Mind, I also think that I had an epic tailwind this morning so I might change my mind by the time I get home.....

ok guys,
how worn is too worn?

I'll count teeth again when I'm home on Sunday but I'm confident about the speed from my gamin 800. I'll confess it's not sustainable but it is a lot of fun. I guess I should fit the cadence sensor although if I haven't got the ratio wrong some maths would supply the same answer.

Dumb question time. If I wanted a 16t rear, is there anything I need to look for or can I buy any one from CRC/Wiggle etc?

Release the beast at Richmond Park.;)

When I'm down in London for the triathlon, I might have to see if I can fit in a little jaunt across town to see what all the fuss is about with Richmond Park. If I get down in decent time on the Friday, I could have a look that afternoon, particularly if someone were on hand to show me round!

Assuming you're talking about standard screw-on fixed cogs, they're much cheaper from Mattempleton on eBay ~£5.50 delivered unless you specifically want an expensive Durace one. If you haven't already got a fixed cog fitted, don't forget you ought to fit a lock ring with it.

I could be around that evening after work. RP is a nice training ground for cycling with a decent-ish road surface (relative to most of London) and enough elevation variation for it to not be too boring. It can get a bit congested with cars and cyclists though on warm, sunny days so it's best to go early or late if you actually want to go fast.

Pre/post work RP laps with a good group when there's no traffic can be good fun. I passed through on my rides this weekend and the amount of motor traffic was ridiculous. I assume you're doing the tri on the 3rd of August? Feel free to send me a message nearer the time, would gladly go for a spin with you and talk training tips.

OCUKRP meet?

Sounds good! I'd only be down in London from Friday August 1st to Sunday August 3rd, doing the team relay triathlon on the Saturday, but it'd be worth seeing if I could fit something in.
