To be honest I'd stick with your phone unless you're going to spend a bit more and get a computer with mapping.

I'm not too concerned with mapping as I'd quite happy use my mobile(s) for it and don't really cycle to places I don't know the route to! (yet!)

I'll wager, without looking, that £150 will get you a Garmin 500 with the sensors on ebay.

I'll keep my eyes open on the bay for one! If anyone comes across someone they know selling one for around that price let me know! ;)

Speaking of which at a whim just planned this route.

11:11:11!

11:27:39 here, but I know it'd take me a week! I'm on my second rest day after the 300ft of climbing last sunday completely ruined my thighs... I shouldn't have cycled my commute Mon/Tues as by Tues night I couldn't even climb the stairs! Going down them was even worse! My girlfriend said I looked like I needed a stair lift @34 lol :p:rolleyes:

both bikes went in for a service today
£260 lighter :(

Only £30 less than I paid for my complete road bike! ;)

Oh, thats smart!
It must work out estimated time based on previous results.
It tells me the estimated time is 9:14:11 :p

8:49:13 top trumps here!

And my bikes still broken, bearing place had a fail and didn't get the bearings in, bike shop gave me some crap about not being able to press the old ones out either.

Looks like I'll be fixing it myself, lined up a backup for bearings in Sydney and I'll try the local place in Bathurst as I'll be back tomorrow. Knocking them out should be simple, then I have a home made press I can use.

Saying that when I replaced the BB on my Giant I didn't need the press, just tapped the bearings in using the old ones butted up next to the new as a guide/to tap with the hammer and that worked just fine.

Tips on cheapo cycling computer or HR/cadence to link to my galaxy S5 for Strava? Just for my interest more than anything... I'm a newbie and only really a commuter, nothing serious! :D

Nothing too expensive, say £150 tops for the computer (if it has the sensors too) or less than £70/80 for the HRM and cadence? Just so I'm not wasting my money on something junk a salesman thinks I need...

I think the s5 has ant+ sensors in it?
You could buy the garmin speed/cadence sensor + HR monitor and connect them up to your phone.

I have a Note3 with ant+ and use an app called IpBike. Free version is limited to 1000km or something, full version costs £5.
Works fine connected to my speed/cadence sensor, HR monitor and power meter.

Exciting times my Canyon is due to shipped anytime now , over 3 weeks earlier

Only problem is my leg is still in a brace :p Hospital visit on Tuesday so hopefully that will change and I can start the long road of getting fit again. Going to be a hard slog through winter :o

Just realised I need some pedals for said bike http://www.wiggle.co.uk/look-keo-2-max-pedals/ these any good ? They are the usual 3 holed plastic cleat ones aren't they ? I always forget what SPD etc etc are

Ship it to me for testing then?

Are these speedplay things worth the money and maintenance or are they a marketing gimmick?

I have never used them, but from what i'v heard:
They are good for serious weight weenies or people who have mobility issues. They have adjustable release angles so you can set them up with a large amount of movement that can help if you have problems with the limited movement of normal SPD-SL systems.
Hugely expensive though

I don't have mobility issues and I'm not a weight weenie. I wouldn't use any other pedal system besides Speedplay!

Speedplays on the "nice" bikes, Shimano M520s for winter bike and commuter.

Are there other benefits then?

As i said, I'v never used them myself so just going by what others have told me.
The lollypops do look quite cool though

Oh yeah, that link has reminded me of another benefit:
They have a very low stack height (distance between bottom of your foot and pedal axle).
I dont know why that's a good thing, but some smart people told me it was :p
