touch: I've just put in a request to join the fantasy cycling league.

Approved. :)

It's a bit annoying that i dont get any email notifications when people request to join >.<

Still time for everyone else to join before the tour down under starts tomorrow. The prize for the TDU is 'only' a set of wheels but it'll be good practice for the TdF with bigger prizes :D

Does anyone have any recommendations for padded shorts or tights? Or do you wear padded shorts under plain tights? How does this padding thing work? I'm thinking due to man-numbness after the last long ride I did, I ought to think about some padding for the Kentish Killer...

I use a combination of a Kryptonite D lock and a motorbike braid. My logic here is it's two different types of material to have to cut through or two different types of lock to have to pick. Either way, a thief would have to carry more than one type of tool to steal my bike.

A warning relying on just braids though - I rescued my mate's bike last week with my battery angle grinder and it cut through the braid in under a second. It was literally like cutting a piece of string with scissors. I'm quite tempted to cut one of my D locks just to see how long it takes.

I was thinking about this lock

Other options would be keeping it on balcony under some kind of cover so no one would see its a bike ( we are not allowed to keep them on balconies lol - dont ask...)
or find a way to hang it on the door inside our storage unit indoors...or just keep it in the communal garage locked with proper lock..either way I need insurance as I need to leave it outside when at work..

19 is still a great average speed for a commute!
Are there lots of junctions/traffic lights on your route?
I would struggle to average 19mph at the moment, with no chance if i had to make any stops for other traffic.

19!!! I dont think I will be able to go so fast on way to and from work lol....I have roundabouts and lights every few meters :/ not to mention condition of the road itself :/ thats London...

CBA to quote the questions from the last couple of pages so here's some answers :p

Garmin Edge 605 just needs the HR monitor strap to give you HR readings.

Bib shorts are what you want, you'll need to find a brand you find comfortable for several hours in the saddle with no chaffing from seams etc. Then you can alter what you wear with them depending on conditions. Knee warmers, thin tights with no pad, winter tights with no pad, baggy shorts. For the winter tights to wear over the top I'm a big fan of the Pearl Izumi Amfib's.

Sorry, hunting around on the Garmin site it looks like it doesn't. I always thought the only difference between the 705 and 605 was the barometric altimiter.

I'm pretty sure that there isn't, but I'll have a look later. Is it worth getting a separate HRM? I'm not sure I really see the value in having one, to be honest.

@Johnny another KK signup eh? What time is your start?
Same as you guys I think. I'm 800 and my riding pardner is 722 ;)

Good lock. It's worth having two locks and leave them where you keep the bike. It's a bit of a kicker having to shell out on so much security gear but peace of mind is something that's difficult to put a price on. I've spend hundreds on bike and garage locks, but at the same time I'm the only person I know who has never had anything stolen...

Me on a borrowed Hewitt frame loaded with oldschool Campag kit this weekend. The other frame is a "Geddes" I was told which my girlfriend was riding with similar levels of kit on it although the cassette was very high geared so she struggled a bit.

Not ridden another road bike bar my own Boardman however it felt like a similar weight and rigidity. I didn't have any issues just getting on and getting used to the position and where the dears were etc. They both were running the front brake on the left too, apparently how they did it in the old days I was told haha.
