Sounds very eventful! I'm sad to see that you didn't quite make it to the top of Sa Calobra :( Do you have time to try again on another day?

I am so envious of you riding along the newly resurfaced road to Formentor!!

Yeah, I'm going to give it another go on Wednesday, weather permitting.

It is very nice that road, the descent is pretty epic.

My new Specialized Expert Carbon road bike shoes.
They are lighter than a pair of slippers, 230g for the pair, and the carbon sole is super rigid for outstanding power transfer.

I've been using MTB shoes (specialized Pro) and pedals (Crank Brothers Eggbeaters) since 2011 so they should improve the pedaling feel. They are being linked up to Shimano 105 5800 pedals.

Just as a matter of interest how do Cycling shoes sizes compare with 'normal' shoes? E.g I take a size 11 in a hush puppies shoe for work but a size 12 for a nike trainer.

I suppose I should start asking you guys to recommend me some good summer shoes

my current summer shoes are broken, and need replacing before the spring

currently use Specialized Sport Road shoes (£70) but want a full BOA fastening design this time, so I might replace them with the specialized S-Works shoes (£160)

is there anything else I should consider?

Thanks

I struggled with the outers using my park tools cable cutter on a jagwire kit. I should get a proper outer cutting tool really :p

I bought some from evans for not too much and they've been pretty good, though you do need something thin and blunt to get the end properly open. Some cutters have a little thing on the side, but mine don't.

I wear a 9 in regular shoes, which is a 43 in Euro land, but I need a 44 for my Shimano shoes. Shimano are notorious for this. Some other brands are better, I gather.

Just started my Trainerroad free month (came with my KK RMII) and only just realised that Trainerroad only seems compatible with a PC/Mac using a USB ANT+ adaptor and not with Android (Phone/Tablet I normally use)

Is this correct? I've got a old laptop I can use but no ANT+ USB stick and no way to mount it on my bike or have it easily near me when on the trainer (as I turbo in the back garden) :(

Yes you need a pc, mac or iphone?ipad. I use a pc with an Ant+ USB stick (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/suunto-movestick-mini/)

Think there is some device you plug in for iphones or ipads.

Really enjoying Sufferfest and trainerroad combination - training to virtual power with the sufferfest videos. Can do 2 hours on the turbo now without too much boredom! Good structured training too with Sufferfest vids.

Going to get back on the road in Feb from my injury, (probably could now but who wants to ride outside in Jan)! Just need a saddle and pedals now for my Cervelo R3 Ultegra 2015 build now, cant wait for the nicer weather :)

Don't forget to look into cycle to work schemes if they apply to you!

I don't think they do but I will ask. TBH I don't think I'm eligible anyway as due to my job (field service technician) I have a compulsory company car and can't commit to cycling my commute at all really.

I'm a bit funny with buying some stuff online due to after sales and wanting to get a feel for what I'm buying. Luckily an Evans Cycles has just opened in Norwich and Paul's Cycles sometimes has some good offers on so hopefully I'll be ok.

You're eligible so long as the bike is used mainly for commuting... but in practise I can't imagine that ever gets checked. You could get a thousand pound downhill mountain bike with ludicrous gears and woefully impractical tyres for a 20 mile commute and no one would bat an eyelid. You'd be misusing the scheme, but I've never heard of anyone being pulled up on it.

Usually you size up one, but you're best to try a few on as each make can be pretty different.

Yeah that's sort of the problem. I can't think of anywhere close by that would have cycling shoes to try on :(

Why is save in inverted commas?

You'll save money and essentially be getting free credit by spreading the cost over a year...

The cycle to work scheme is a ludicrous bargain. If you can get a bike you want from the shop your employer uses then it's a no-brainer.

The £500 limit is slightly bewildering, but hey ho.

I thought it went up to £1000 ? I know my company allows up to £5000 now.

Only just realised youre near me. Dont forget you've got cyclesuk and pedal revolution in Norwich too. Plenty of choice there. I havnt been to Evans yet but its on my list in the next couple of weeks. You may also like to try Howards cycles in Wymondham , small family run shop but they do have some nice stuff.
