Anyone know much about this bike?

It's my Dads over in OZ, used twice I think!

I'll be using it when I'm out there, already requested the pedals get changed back to SPD-L's :p

Nope, never heard of it. Looks nice though.

Googling suggests that it is a "Proton T-Sprint R"

Just guessing from the picture, i'd say the frame is fairly old, maybe 6-9 years.
Looks like Campag Record groupset, which will be nice. Probably 10speed.

10% up cobbles, no thanks! There's a short sharp 12% on one of the routes I do, can't imagine climbing something like that but cobbled! How long a stretch is it? It'd be tricky to even walk up it, more cyclocross territory methinks!? Did you use normal 23/25mm road tyres? Impressed! :)

Standard 25mm road tyres at about 80psi but it was dry with just a bit of moss cover, no chance I'd be getting up that in the wet. :p My budget PX carbon tubs survived the cobbles though so they must be semi decently made. :D

Looks very tidy and fast! Looks to be in excellent condition too - unless that's an old picture!! ;)

Weird gap in the frame below the cage, I'm guessing that is purely cosmetic?

Lol, does anyone follow these little GCN movies? :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgki9BO7hDk

Only when they pop up on here, too much happening on the GCN YouTube for me so turned off notifications...

Virb elite for 119@amazon if anyone wants ;)

Fantastic deal, if I didn't have the standard I'd grab that up!

Brave man! Especially with your wheels/tubs! Boneshaker on descent? ;)

Chocolate biscuits doing the rounds at work and after a hectic morning I've had no willpower... :(

Afternoons are drawing out - might almost be a daylight cycle home soon (if I get to leave at 5, unlikely) Although rain is forecast for several of the evening commutes home, at least that means positive temperatures... (Silver lining and all that!) :D

Turns out walking just over 10 miles to "at least get some activity" in when your feet haven't been used for anything but cycling for several years is really extremely painful. Whoddathunkit?

Not tired at all but I'm fairly sure I have no skin left on the bottom of my feet.

Hm, seems Whyte don't allow delivery of their bikes when ordered through retailers online, buy and collect it seems.

Restricts my choice of retailer to Leisure Lakes but they don't offer top ups on the cycle to work scheme, which I'm not keen on doing anyway, but they do offer 0% credit...

They allowed me to top up when I got my bike in May last year, about 15/20% extra iirc. And this was initially discovered by speaking to their online chat advisers. The problem with Leisure Lakes is that in the vast majority of cases, a better deal can be had elsewhere.

So as I've now had both of my wiggle deliveries of multiple pairs of bib shorts I'll give a summary of the fit of each brand and sizing.

My 'rough' sizes:
Chest = 110cm, Thigh = 65cm, Waist = 98cm

Northwave logo bib shorts ss14 Size - XXL.
Quoted sizes: Waist 97-99cm, No thigh but hip 113-115cm
Fit: Quite tight, tighter than the DHB, leg grippers very good but too tight for my thighs, rear fits better than the DHB's.

DHB Shard cycle bib short/ Size - XXL.
Quoted sizes: Waist 100cm, Thigh 65.6cm, Hip 104-112cm
Fit: Better thigh fit than the Northwave, no leg grippers but not required, baggy part below the bib on the rear above pad.

DHB Flashlight bib short/ Size - L.
Quoted sizes: Waist 92cm, Thigh 60.5cm, Hip 96-104cm
Fit: Ok around thighs and waist but pad to waistband area not big enough for waistband to sit anywhere near my waist and the pad wouldn't sit in the right place! Definately a size smaller than DHB Active L.

DHB Flashlight bib short Size - XL.
Quoted sizes: Waist 96cm, Thigh 63cm, Hip 100-108cm
Fit: Good fit, thighs not quit as tight/fitted as I'd like but the rest of the fit is good, will keep these and get the others swapped for some XL!

Sportful Pista short sleeve jersey ss14 Size - XXL.
Quoted sizes: Waist 99cm, Chest 110cm
Fit: Ok 'baggy' fit but I want more of a fitted aerodynamic one for my summer jerseys, will try an XL which should fit me perfectly... But wiggle don't have them in stock

DHB Active panelled short sleeve jersey Size - L.
Quoted sizes: Waist 92cm, Chest 105cm
Fit: Great fit, arms are a bit tight but not uncomfortable. Will get more if I can't get the Sportful!

Link doesn't open for me mate, no 404 or anything but amazon.co.uk works, summary/info/name to search for please? :)

Commute home was ok, raining and warm when I was getting ready, then cold and dry when I was riding. Overheated slightly so just paced myself and got a 3rd place PR on a segment as I was lucky with the traffic & lights which would normally slow me. Half-term next week so I'm fully intending on a few faster commutes! :D:cool:

Quick question about pedals, will this kit all work together?

These for the road bike: http://www.halfords.com/cycling/cycling-parts/pedals-pegs/shimano-pdr-540-spd-sl-road-pedals-black

These for the hybrid: http://www.halfords.com/cycling/cycling-parts/pedals-pegs/shimano-spd-m424-mtb-pedals

These shoes: http://www.halfords.com/cycling/clothing/shoes/shimano-r078-spd-road-shoes-size-46

Want to be able to use the hybrid with normal shoes. From a practical point of view, is there much difference between SPD and SPD-SL? I wonder if it might be better to get a double sided pedal on the road bike.

Thanks!

What do you mean all together?

The SPD-SL pedals will need SPD-SL cleats, and the SPD pedals will need SPD cleats (or a normal shoe as it's platformed as well).

The shoe can take take either SPD or SPD-SL cleats.

A lot of people use SPDs on a road bike, it's really just a case of deciding whether it being slightly easier to walk around or being more aerodynamic and having a stiffer sole allowing you to transfer power better matters more to you. I will say that double sided might not be as important as you think it would be, because road clipless pedals don't just spin around like flat pedals, they're designed so that the resting position of the pedal is with the top side up.

Ah yes, being a bit dim here. I think I'm going to go for SPD so I can use the shoes on both bikes. Having SPD-SL won't allow me to use the type of combination pedals for my hybrid. Saying that, I might just keep the pedals that I've got on my current bike...

Bad day at work so I was feeling confrontational on the way home and decided to verbally abuse a red light jumper. Ultimately a pointless exercise as he was unphased by my insults and continued to RLJ so eventually I lost him. Hurling abuse at a complete stranger who you feel deserves it is an excellent form of stress relief I must say!:D
