You only really need to worry about one pedal being particularly easy to unclip from, as you're only going to be taking one out to stop at the lights or whatever. The other one beig trickier needn't be a problem, as you'll only be unclipping that one if you're stopping properly.

Yeah I see where you are coming from. Clipping in was also hit and miss on the right as well though. Hopefully my adjustment has improved it anyway.

Forgot too mention my flashlight DHB bib shorts arrived today. They look pretty good for £17 a pair. Pad looks pretty thick more than good enough for the commute once the weather allows.

Or a CX bike that can take mudguards.

I'm not sure why there's the sudden hate for CX bikes. I find the adventure/gravel bike thing a bit blah myself but this year more than ever before there are reasonable options for bikes that have both discs and mudguards.

Well, I think it's more the adventure/gravel thing that's bugging people. CX is fine, but it seems a bit perverse to buy a CX bike for winter and then use it without mudguards. What's the point of that?

Just watched the last 10km if the Froome & Bertie show today. That. Was. Brilliant.

In other news, my Ride London entry is confirmed. Not been posting here for a while as I'm not doing much riding at the moment; Belgium one week, Italy the next, Madrid another and I'm off to the U.S. on Monday.

Commuting sucks when it's not by bike.

Hoping for a decent break from the travel at the end of the month.

Expensive week this!

New bike, 2 pairs of new shoes (although got them pretty much for free with the bike) Supacaz two tone bar tape, helicopter tape, and jagwire kit, so far!

Picking up the bike tomorrow, but will try to show some will power by not riding it until I get the helicopter tape turn up!

I can understand being annoyed by flawed reasoning, yeah.

I'm always amazed by how little people seem to think/care about mudguards. I see it a lot on my commute especially. I guess they don't care looking like they're suffering from severe diarrhoea or coating everyone behind them in crap.

I don't bother to be honest. I have an ass saver that's it. You're not allowed to have anything bar a bottle cage attached when racing, so it would be a ball ache to keep taking them on/off. Plus they're generally just a huge annoyance anyway.

Do you commute a lot?

Obviously racing and to a lesser extent training is kind of different.

I've got a CX bike with no mudguard mounts :)

I wanted a road bike with disc brakes for the winter, but I'm only allow two bikes. I like riding through the woods during the warmer months, so a CX bike just seemed to be the best option.

Front brake cable snapped on yesterday's ride. Is it particularly difficult to replace? Not really had to adjust the disc brakes until now.

My last two CXs had no mudguard mounts so I spent ages faffing with zip ties/wires/etc to get stuff on there. If you're riding every day through rain and mud it's really worth getting something on there or you'll forever be cleaning crap out of your components, not to mention how antisocial it is to spray mud over everyone behind you.

I'm clearly a bit militant about mudguards :p

Replacing the brake cable is pretty easy. Is it just the inner that has snapped or the outer too? If you need to replace the outer then I'd recommend picking up compressionless housing (Jagwire stuff is good). You'll need some bike cable cutters too. You can get by without a specific outer-housing cutting tool if you keep the old cable and stick it inside the new housing before you cut it (this helps prevent the housing caving-in/collapsing from the pressure of the cutting).
