I don't know why they don't do the operation these days but when I was a nipper, the first serious bout of tonsillitis and you were in hospital having them whipped out. Don't want this thread to turn medical so will leave it there! Good to see that you're back on the bike so quickly :)

I'm having trouble with the valve core on my rear tyre screwing out whenever I take off the dust caps/unscrew the little presta thing before pumping. I already threw out a previous tube because of this but it's happening again now. It's very annoying because air is very slowly leaking out of the valve when cycling. Is it just a case of screwing the core super tight into the tube or what had I best do?
I'm tempted to remove the dust caps (as per "the rules") or maybe use thread lock on it.

Mine do that occasionally, usually because of my ham fisted over tightening of the dust caps. But it's no reason to throw away the whole inner tube

Just unscrew the thing from the dust cap and screw it back in the valve and nip it up slightly with a pair of pliers or something.

I had a good ride today, 120miles/8000ft with some great roads. The ride was marred by a friend doing a "Jens Voight". Probably doing about 35mph when she hit the deck on a descent. At least 5 minutes unconscious then 5 minutes of barely responsive and not much better after that. Thankfully reports from the ER are "just" a triple fracture to her orbital bone. We cut the route short at that point about 75 miles in and headed for home.

Getting slightly depressed (and jealous) reading about you lot all out riding. haven't been out for 2 weeks and probably wont get out for the next 2 :(
Stupid time of year with stupid exams :'(

Don't worry about it. It's hard for most of us to get out, we each have commitments of one kind or another. The key is to enjoy it when you do make it out ;)

Dougie Mac ride today. I chickened out of the 110 miler to Llangollen and back, I tried it a few weeks ago and it broke me (Although I had just come off a 4 week hiatus where my bike was in the shop after a crash) so I wasn't feeling all too confident about it.

Pretty pleased with the effort on the 50 miler though, found it fairly easy going.

Definitely will be doing the full ride next sportive though :)

Completed the Llangollen ride. 104mi in 6 hours. I hit the wall on the way back but two gels eventually got me back feeling ok again.

Quite a decent route. Some lovely scenery!

The back and insides of my legs kill. Time to rest :)

Huge fan of the way the Sectuer looks, my one complaint is the cables though, it's just crying out for some form of internal cable routing. Oh well, at least it can be used as a washing line ;p

yeah couple of them look a little loose, not sure if I can fit some kinda sheath on them?
the prev owners upgraded the rear derailur to rival but everything else is apex,
as I said before the wheels are "Aksium Race" while the tyres are "Schwalbe Durano S" not sure if these are good bad or indifferent but just cycling that route (which took me 10 mins longer without the return stretch) and it's a world away from my old mountain bike!
my only reservation is the brakes don't seem to have the same stopping power as my MB ones? it may be because I'm not on the drops so don't have as good a hold on them?
I'm sure I'll get used to it tho, managed to hit 32mph downhill according to my computer so that's not so bad!

Durano S are my tyre of choice: reasonable puncture protection but still light and good grip.

The Aksiums are a good training wheel. Not the lightest, but generally regarded as bombproof.

thats good, I think I'm gonna need something pretty sturdy to start with, guessing there's to be no dropping off kerbs etc with this bike?
