How do you "Not notice" that.
Does your rear brake not scuff unevenly and slow the bike down in jerks???

The wheel is still true so no scuffing. I only braked once I was nearly at work and felt the jerk coming up to light.

It must have been from the other week when I punctured but I can't remember it being the way it is.

It will do me for a few months yet

To be fair I nearly clipped the kerb coming through this at speed http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=cambuslang&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

and I rode into a cone near my house. Very observant.

I'm sick of punctures. My pre summer optimism for dry weather and opting for continental grand prix tyres was a terrible idea.

Are ultra gatorskins my best bet? I've had grand prix 4 seasons in the past and whilst good I still had my fair share of punctures with them.

Anyone able to recommend somewhere for gels? I'm currently eyeing some up on eBay - can get 10 High5 energy gels for £6 which seems pretty good. Anyone know of anything better?

What size do you need? I guess for 700x23/700x25 the obvious choices would be Gatorskin HardShell or Schwalbe Durano Plus (I've not used either). For 700x28 to 700x40 I would recommend Schwalbe Marathon Supremes; I have done over 3000km on mine and I've had one puncture, which was caused by a shard of glass that would have gone through pretty much any other tyre as well. I have them on two of my bikes and I really like them.

Yep 700x23. I find 95% of my punctures are from picking up sharp stones/glass when the road is damp and then it just goes round and round and round until it punctures.

Are the hardshells a bit extreme? I would have thought regular ultra/gatorskins would been enough?

Looking at getting my girlfriend a bike from Evans. Quidco did (until a few days ago) have a 10% voucher code and 6% cashback so I'll probably wait until something like that pops up again - undoubtedly they'll have an offer on if Wiggins wins. But does anyone know of any other codes or deals, like buying gift cards cheaper or similar?

The Boardman Team Carbon is now retailing for £1400 on Wiggle, £1420 including shipping to Guernsey, I bought mine for £740 shipped a few months back!

I'd be up for an OcUK cycle assuming it's down South, as I can get the bike on the boat to Portsmout or Poole and meet nearby.

On another note I'm tempted to sign up for a Lands End - John O'Groats cycle next year, 13 nights, around 90 miles a day.

Do any of you guys who work in bike shops (or anybody else for that matter) have a pair of broken STI shifters lying around?

I want to set up my spinning bike as similar to my road bike as i can, so i just want them for the feel and it doesnt matter if they actually work or not.

I'm the opposite. I struggle out of the saddle (but regularly practice it) and am more happy to keep up a steady pace sat down. Sometimes I feel like I can go like that forever so long as the gradient doesn't go above ~7% for too long.

I've read that the HardShells are pretty dead feeling (the same goes for the Durano plus), but they offer excellent puncture protection. You'd probably be okay with standard Gatorskins (or Duranos - I prefer Schwalbe vs Continental, personally), however. I've been debating switching the tyres on my Van Nicholas as I don't really trust the Vredesteins that are on it, so I'll be interested to hear your views if you do go for the Gatorskins.

search for marathon pack

Cheers - looks like a bargain!

Just ordered that pack. Also ordered some Zero tabs and a new bottle and cage from ebay, because the other day when I was out on the bike I went over a bit of a bump and the bottom broke off the bottle cage on the seat tube! D'oh!

and at least 1 or 2 nights of getting to know each other ?

I am heterosexual but i've no problem with females coming along.

Climbing is about weight, training, determination. Unless you have all 3 you are going to struggle. You also have to like doing it, like I do. And why im rubbish on the flat. Also find being a decent runner helps with the puff side side of things.

Decent ride to work, the gym and back today. Glad the weather is finally improving. Only thing that slightly ruined it was getting thrown unidentified objects at my behind from a car full of youths. Ridiculous behaviour, felt so uneasy the rest of the way home. Caught me right on my backside, and stung!!
