looks like a decent built... id maybe have gone drop bars though

also 48x16 is quite a big gear if your just starting out single speed, unless you have legs of steel

I run 43x16 and 48x18 commuting

Yeah certain bits are customizeable such as the gear ratio. I think I'd prefer flat bars for the commute but I can always change this in the future.

I just wasn't sure on the price for the build, is it good value for money?

Is there a website where I can input a ratio and then it'll tell me the speed it will spin out at? Or at least show me how it compares to my current gearing on my triple?

uniQ posted some pics of relative gear ratios from somewhere or other a while back to show why we should all be riding doubles instead of girly compacts... He might be able to hook you up.

Google 'Rabbit gear ratio calculator'

Our C2W goes through Halfrauds and they have nothing I want. :(

As for the NY messenger guys, yes they are knobs, but you have to admire the bike handling skills. I just wish they found a better outlet for it!

Fir single speed I quite like a little over 2:1 radio, I run 36:16 on my single speed bike and can make it up most steepish hills without having to walk.

Try 2:1 and go from there.

48/16 fixed gearing on mine. I quite like it but, if you're stop-starting at traffic lights all the time, your knees will start to hate you.

LOL. I've since switched to a compact and even changed my cassette from 12-25 to 11-28 :p

Although I took the 28 off and swapped it for the 16 from the 12-25 as I find the 24 with compact is perfect and prefer the tighter ratio:
11,12,13,14,15,16,17,19,21,24
