guys, I've just changed the pads on my brakes but I forgot to note what way round they where!
they have little fins on one side, and are open one end, I'm guessing the open end faces the back of the bike and the fins point down? or am I getting this totally wrong?

Open end facing backwards would make sense, unless you would enjoy the sense of danger of knowing the brake blocks might just slide out any time you try to stop ;)

My commuter is so filthy....just looking at it makes your hands dirty!

That said, I can't bring myself to do anything other than clean/lube the chain until spring. It will just get filthy again in a matter of days!

haha.. remember the pictures of my triban3? it got a lot worse.. but i finally jumped at it and cleaned it! lasted for 2 days before it was covered in muck again..

I would buy some of those removable TT bars unless you plan on doing a lot of TT's. The bike you linked would have marginally better aerodynamics then a Defy with TT bars anyway as it does not even have aero wheels (i know they say they are in the description but they look only marginally deeper then bog standard wheels).

Should I?
http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/FBPXSTTTB/planet_x_stealth_rival_time_trial_bike_2013

Done 1 x 10mile time trial (in 29:08 2up) ever on boxingg day and got a bog stock Giant Defy 2 2012.

Should i!?

I feel a trip to Ratherham coming up soon..... should i though!?

Can get it on cycle to work scheme.
Or should i just buy TT bars for Defy 2?

That offer will come back round again and a TT bike is a specialist investment. I know you've got some issues from your motorbike accident so make sure you get one that fits or you won't get the benefit.

Its not so much about how aero the bike itself is. The rider on the bike has a far bigger effect than anything else.

A TT bike like the planet-x has a very steep seat tube angle and a short head tube which raises your ass and lowers your shoulders allowing you to reduce frontal area.

But, a good set of aero wheels do make a difference as well.

Good grief. Trainer Road + Sufferfest is a brilliant training aid but I've just had to lie down for half an hour after doing my first video. Brutal! Going to need to do a lot over the next 6 months if i'm going to get through the dragon ride though looking at my current power outputs :(

You'll feel the benefits if you keep it up. Going to invest in a TrainerRoad setup myself so glad to hear it works.

Good shout, what's your total at now?

339 km.

Tomorrow I'm doing the same 80 mile route I did yesterday, but if I have the energy left I'll go all out and do the extra 20 miles I need to get the 161km I need. 100 miles basically......we'll see!

Weather looks better, drier at least....but still bloody windy! Much prefer it to be the other way around but hey ho.

Well done.
I got 80 miles in this morning bringing my total to 413k. Equates to about 55miles needed tomorrow. I'm going out with some guys on my MTB, so i might need another night ride on the road bike when i get home as 55miles is a fair bit on an MTB.
Remember you also have monday, i think i could get 15-20 miles done on monday morning before work if i need to but i'd rather get it all done tomorrow.

Monday is still on the cards yes, but it seems a bit a weak effort to do a massive ride tomorrow to only leave 20 miles for monday.

I may do the 80 mile ride, settle at home for a bit, then do 20 miles in the evening.

EDIT: Ah FFS! Just as I was hoping for a dry night, so the roads would be a bit better when I'm on my Boadman (without mudguards), it's just started hammering it down again!! JUST STOP RAINING!!!!!!

Good job, you've pulled that out the bag over the last couple of days. What I would give to be sat on 400k+ right now.

I went out earlier and Garmin froze, lost around 7 mi/11 km gutted

Hi,
I am looking to buy a cyclocross bike soon as a winter bike and for when i want to do a bit off road. once i've sold my kite surfing kit.
but i dunno what to go for or quite sure on budget as it will depend on how much my kite surfing kit goes for..
But say up to £1000-£1100
I like the look of the cube cross race
or don't mind buy a frame and forks set and buy the parts separately and built it.

but what would you suggest?

Thanks
