Thanks, didn't think I was going to get a response. I just missed that sale and all were left were 58's got quite excited when I saw this in the email.

Only one thing it's missing is internal cabling  Will mull the decision over the weekend and do some more reading,

i have a 54cm going for £1750 in the shop, Merlin are not always the cheapest

edit - also have a 56cm

Just did my 20 minute test on TrainerRoad and came out at 141 for my FTP figure. Consulting a chart that puts me in an "untrained" category so I'm a little unsure of its accuracy but I guess it's just a benchmark to improve from. :/

Eyeing up a Scott CR1 in the all black colour scheme in Peak Cyclesport today - that really is a great looking bike. Believe you (used to?) have one Asprilla?

Still got mine and still love it.

For a frame that's three years old you'll struggle to beat it for cost / weight.

Can be a bit choppy on really bad road surfaces but decent wheel and tyres take care of that.

Dunno if it helps but I was at 2.5w/kg (estimated from my Kurt Kinetic so should be OK) at Christmas when I hadn't done any cycling for a while and even then I would only be at an average of 15-16mph..

Overall watts help for the flat stuff, watts per kg count on the climbs. I can cycle an average of around 20mph but my watt per kg is only 2.5 too.

I ride 250 FTP on TrainerRoad using Sufferfest videos.

Quick question peeps, are rims front and back specific? I want to buy a 24h rim to lace up to a 24h front hub but the rim I want is marked as a rear, surely there is no difference?

Depends on the rim. Some of them are not symmetrical and have more spokes on the drive side and some have the spoke holes drilled offset to balance out the offset nature of the wheel (to make space for the cassette). So these wouldnt work as a front rims.
I'd guess that if it's specifically marked as a rear rim, it's probably asymmetrical.

Ouch!

Pretty chuffed with myself today. Replaced F and R brake cables, so no more sticking cables.....and replaced the bar tape too. A bit easier than I thought, I had visions of me taking it to the bike shop to finish off for me.

Apparently Garmin-Sharp had their truck broken into last night and had all their team bikes stolen, 16 Cervelo R5s with Di2. :o

I suppose the conspiracy theorist could make the claim that its sabotage.

However, its more likely its stupid thieves. Sure, they are bikes worth a lot of money, but if they are chance thieves, then I can't see how they are going to shift unique bikes very easily.

Have you got a 54 or a 56 out of interest? I seem to remember we are similarly proportioned (5'11"ish, slightly longer inseam than average).

Edit: Had a search and it's a 54. Gives me something to think about as the missus has given me the green light for a new bike. :D

I just got back in and was about to order the Cervelo, but weren't they also offering the usual 10% of yesterday ? Pretty sure it was £1800 yesterday at basket or am I going mad?

Cheers! Looks like I'll be the proud owner of a new R5 VWD next week and even saved a bit over Merlin's offer :)

Did a nice 55 miles in the rain today to the monthly bicycle 'jumble sale' got a few more silly bargains. Assos oversocks 2 pairs.... £1 each, a pair of Assos socks £1 and some waterproof sealskinz gloves £5 :D

Wahey! Now don't get it nicked like the Garmin lot... :p

It will be going straight onto the house insurance!

Pretty set on DA 9000 groupset so just need to spec stem/bars/saddle to comlete the build. Thinking ENVE/3T stem and some carbon ergo bars?
