I think Ui2 comes out at about £1500.

Not actually looked into it yet as it's not even remotely viable this year. Next year it might be an option and I'll start looking then.

CRC has all the components listed with prices. Most of it seems to be due in stock on 23/11/11

pedantic note: the 'D' in Di2 does not refer to 'D'ura Ace. Both are called Di2 (Dura Ace Di2 + Ultegra Di2)

I know. I guess it's just an easy way to differentiate on the forums.

Are you considering a move to electronic shifting? It's going to be expensive whichever way you do it, but I love the idea of a self-adjusting front mech with no chain rub! ;)

I would love an electric drivetrain (and wireless brakes in the future as well :p) but i cant afford it yet.
Having to give the front shifter an extra half-shift as you move down the cassette and keeping the rear derailleur tuned is not such a problem yet that i would spend thousands of pounds to avoid it.

Anyone use a buff to keep the wind off their face and ears in the winter? Or are they superfluous to all but the weediest of cold weather wimps?

I have a pretty good kneck/face tube ready to go for the coldest days - was a hell of a battle into a strong headwind on the way home today... hate wind...

Been looking at getting Sat Nav for my bike on a a budget...

What do you guys think of the Bryton Rider 50? I had a look into getting a phone with Sat Nav, but i'm not convinced!

Right i think i've nearly got all of my kit together for my hopefully long-term engagement with cycling. Anything people would recommend i look at getting too:

What i have:

Bell Ukon Helmet
Front mounting bracket for my Fenix L2D torch
Rear LED light
Reflective bib
Floor-standing pump
Mini pump
Padded gloves
Padded shorts
Outdoor bike cover
Multitool
Abus 685 lock
Generic code lock (for the wheels)
Endomondo

What i need (and would love recommendations of)

A backpack (needs to hold work papers and a 13" laptop)
Potentially clipless pedals? If i do go this way it'll be M520s probably

Anything else I've not thought of?

Dunno what Ribble are playing at but I got a despatch confirmation of a product I bought months ago.
Went to their website, logged in and sure enough, there is an order of the original date (July) but when you open it, it has todays date on it.

Shame they didn't **** up on the Gran Fondo order. :D
Alas it's "only" a V3 computer. :o

We'll see what arrives :D

I've got a buff for winter use, but as soon as I stop at a set of lights, the vapour from my breath gets funnelled up the buff and condenses on my glasses meaning I can't see! When that happens, I pull it down and it just stops the cold chill getting down my neck.

I dont like wearing a buff over my face.
It's slightly harder to breathe with it over your mouth and your breath condensing on it makes it wet :(
Good to use as a scarf tho, got one free in cycling weekly this month :D

On the bag front I'd recommend an Alpkit Gourdon 20 because it's cheap and it's completely waterproof.

I can get my kit and a 13" MacBook Air in there. It also compresses down when it's not full.

Have you got:
  • Spare inner tubes
  • Tyre levers. I'd recommend tough plastic ones ideally, metal ones scratch can scratch your rims.
  • Inner tube repair kit. I have a very tiny pack of super patches

Once you're comfortable and competent on your bike, you can make the switch to clipless. Takes a bit of getting used to though.

I've got one of these Vaude 25+5 cycling bags.

It's quite spacious and should easily hold your laptop and work papers. Some great features:
  • Clips and adjustable straps to ensure the bag stays still on your back
  • Zip to expand it's capacity
  • Lots of compartments
  • Waterproof. Has a bright orange cover concealed in a compartment if you want additional visibility and water proofing
  • Space between your back and bag so it doesn't get so damp from sweat

That looks really good for the price, unfortunately the official retailer is out of stock but i'll have a look around.

Thanks.

No as i plan to be buying a new bike with much narrower rims and am going to take a risk to save a couple of quid (probably a fatal mistake!), i will certain buy a few spares at the same time as getting my new bike though

My multitool has metal ones, i'll look into plastic ones though as that sounds like something that would bug me

Thanks for the link, i'll buy that tonight i think

That look excellent but it's a little expensive for me. Perhaps a Christmas present is in order :)
