I wish I could improve my commute time; far too short and far too many lights/junctions for my speed/effort to have more of an effect than the luck of the lights.

It takes a massive effort to improve your overall time with all those stops. Since I started commuting into central London again there is no way I can get the averages that I used to.

However, I now upload my GPS logs to Strava.com and it allows you to compare your time over different segments (which you can create) so you can see how you are performing over different parts of your route and compare your time to other people.

I average between 12-14mph, 6 miles to work, 7 coming home. Both journies taking about 30mins. I have to go through over 100 sets of traffic lights though. So not really feasible to bring the average up without risking killing myself like a red light jumping muppet.

Looks good. What are those handlebars and do you know what diameter they are at the stem?

They are profile design bars. Got them on ebay, the guy was using them as a base for a time trial setup with aero bars clipped onto them.
They are 25.4 diameter.

Average speed:
10.81 mph

:(

probably lowest here.. I'm commuting on BMX tho and London so traffic lights are every 20m lol

Just picked my bike up from the Specialized store i had it built at. Turns out the BB30 was apparently 'pretty much bone dry on one side' so was worth getting checked. He also managed to comfortably fit some 23mm tyres on there so it looks like a strange beast, nice chunky frame but with incredibly slick tyres. The BB5 brakes are rubbing a bit at the front, but when spun the wheel keeps going for ages so it's more sounds than friction that seems to be the outcome, he also said if it hasn't bedded in properly by the time i get my 6 week service he'll refit them to be sure. Very happy with their service.

Quite scared of using it tomorrow actually, never ridden on narrow slicks before or used drop bars. Mostly excited though.

Dont worry about it, mechanical disc brakes will rub a little because only one pad moves. The rotor has to run as close as possible to the stationary pad so that when the moving pad clamps against it, it is bent as little as possible.

Don't worry platypus, it's just a winter hack - a Specialized Globe from 2008. It doesn't have drop bars so I figured nobody would be interested in it. It's pretty light for a hybrid though, even with a rack.

You cannot post a new bike post without pictures. It should be the law or something :p.

To be honest I'm just jealous anyway, as I haven't bought a new bike this year.

I thought you got a new bike every year without fail?

There's not much point in taking any photos of the Globe, it's just a boring, ordinary looking hybrid. The sad thing is, I'll no doubt put many more miles on it than the Van Nicholas - at least until Spring next year.

Aye I usually do. Not this year though. Saving and all that, although typically I'm told by the boss no new bike this year as we're saving up. And she phoned me the other day to say we might be going skiing in January .

I keep leaving the planet x website page open on the Planet X Pro Carbon Rival Road for the wife to see, she just closes it and mutters something about that's worth more than her car lol.
