Managed this on the turbo this evening, have ordered a proper turbo tyre now, just need to find a cheap spare wheel for it to go on. Must resist urge to buy a new set of wheels, and use old ones for turbo!!

Need to get out this weekend. Weather this week has been horrendous :( When I got up this morning it did look good, sun, blue skies etc. But noooo rain promptly arrived.

Big day tomorrow!

Going to take one bottle water, one energy. Mars bar and a bag of skittles. :D

Spare tube and tyre levers, jobs a good'un.

Lots of serious looking people down at the track when I went to sign on and get my number/transponder, guess thats what you will get when there is money up for grabs! I would like to go under 3 hours, but will see what the day brings!

What are you doing?

If it's anything like the sportives over here, the serious looking people on expensive bikes and matching pro team kit will turn out to be really slow :p

**** website I know, but its a massive event.

http://b2b.asn.au/

Doing the 70km event as not done anything like it before and don't know if ill blow up half way through. The hills don't look too difficult from the profile, but we will see! Forcast for the weather is good.

Really? I find the drops the most comfortable place on fast downhills because you get most leverage on the brakes.

I'm sure they will be but it feels lower (funny that!) and thus quicker/closer to the road which is hard to get my head round compared to a big wide bared mtb.

I'm now able to sprint holding on the drops so will work up, I had one had on drops and one on hoods to the fast hill and got a wobble on. I think it needs to be all or nothing.

Pos having a partner to ride with and talk me though would help so hopefully the clubs round here will encourage me.

Just had a look at the YouTube video linked through that site, looks like an awesome route and like you said nothing looks to daunting hill wise. Hope you have fun and good luck!

On a related note in the recommended videos after watching that came up this little video, some drivers really are idiots.

I dont see much wrong with that really.
Obviously number 5 is an idiot, and number 4 is maybe a little close to the oncoming car, but the rest dont seem to be doing anything wrong?

If any one know Plymouth area just managed to get on the drops from Elburton hotel right down to Morrisons, was fast enough but happy I've got on them.
Think my speedo is well out though, it said I did 68kph and gps on my phone say 54.
It also said 78kph by the boat shop, but I know that place has something that screws it up.

I had number #5 today ;)

What do people use as a guide for determining the correct pressure of their tyres?

My old set of 23mm tyres had a guide on them based on my weight, but I've got some 25mm tyres (Schwalbe Durano Performance) which doesn't have any of this information.

Thanks

Gnarrr.

Went OK today, better than expected, went out quite easy not knowing how I would go with the distance, tried to stick in a group, but at the slower end of the field it tended to split up a bit more.

I was finding the hills a lot easier than most people seemed to, passing people all over on the climbs, some would come back past me downhill, not sure how, heavier rider perhaps or bigger gear!

Got to about 40km, my left leg felt like it was going to cramp, I managed to bunch up with a couple of other guys, we got to 50km and this turned into a bunch of 6. Then it was time for a world of pain  35-40kmph all the way back pedalling for my life, had to take turns at the front which was a total killer for me and a real struggle, was just trying to hang on at that point! Much more fun riding in a fast group though, will have to try and get to the local club.

Waiting for the official result, but I timed myself at 2 hours 17 mins for the 70km, with an average of just over 30kmph which is the first time I have been over 30kmph average!

I really struggled with back pain when I got off though, couldn't bend over at all, had a hot shower and stuck some ibuprofen gel on.

120 psi is the max for my Gp4000s SO I put 115 in the rear and 110 in the front.

and my contour is broken :( so no more cyclist rants from me for a while. :(

Thanks for mentioning what PSIs you all run at, but mine are 25mm tyres and only go up to 6bar (87psi roughly I think).

Surprisingly difficult to find out what pressure they should be!

EDIT: Checked my tyres again, and the writing on the tyre indicates pressure range should be between 6 and 8 bar, but for some reason the leaflet says 6 bar maximum. Good way to cause confusion!
