It does back a difference because all the weight is behind the rear axle so the weight is going to pivot off the rear axle and try and lift the front wheel.

EDIT: After thinking about it more, even though the weight is behind the back wheel where the weight is attached to the bike is the seatpost which is obviously infront of the rear axle.

When you wear a rucksack it's within the axle of the rear wheel, much more central. Panniers are generally on the rear axle? rather than behind it, but im no expert

But give him his due, he is the one who rides it and is expert on it how it handles.
I'm sure if he set off and his front wheel was lifting or wobbling he would have done something about it.
You also have to take into account what is in it, if it's full of tins of baked beans then he might have a problem but I'm guessing it's all light clothing.

Ride it in anger or at any decent pace and it'll show up. I wouldn't put that style of rack on a carbon frame though.

A guy cracked his seat tube/top tube weld on a Kona hei hei using one that I know of.

thing is, unlike a normal pannier you're creating a pivot point/fulcrum on the seat post, if it's 75cm long and you're sticking 9kg on the end of it then it will have an effect!
I'd be happy putting my work stuff in there but doubt I'd go touring with it.

After building up my new frame as fixed gear, I really wish I'd graciously given it gears, loving riding fixed but the frame really deserves gears..

Looks like i'll have to buy a track frame and have 2!

exactly!

The bars, wheelset, chainring, chain, brake levers are all reusable.

Need front a rear derailers, brake shifters, a rear brake, chainrings, drop bars and a casette..
Plus either a rear wheel or probably better just getting a new wheel set

Dammit that gna add up quickly..

Will these work together ok?? About to order :)

They will fit, if that's what you're asking. Have you tried the saddle before? It may be worth speaking to your LBS, as they often have test saddles they will fit and let you try for a week or so.

After a quick bit of photshopping and thinking about my options more I've decided to go with a fixed rack.
To be honest I will be using this bike 100% of the time for commuting and having a removable rack would be another thing I would have to lock up.
I can also see how there could also be a bit of a wobble and also a great chance of it moving if I didn't attach it right.
I also have alternative ideas on how to attach a fixed rack and remove it quickly if needed.
Thanks Russinating and I'm sure you haven't experienced problems but I know what I want now.

Took me ages to spot the strap onto the brake bridge. I couldnt figure out how that rack worked :D

I would stick with the seatpost mounted rack. How does it attach? Is it a quick release around the seatpost? Surely you could swap that for a couple of bolts and it would be just as secure as any other rack.
The fixing point to the bike makes no difference to the handling (assuming the rack is always in the same position), whether it's attached to the seattube, the QR skewers (as above) or the normal rack eyelets.

Not sure if this is the right place for asking...

Is anyone doing (or has anyone done?) the Liverpool to Chester ride? It's coming up next month and I'm thinking of taking part. I'm trying to get back into my cycling. I can manage about 15 miles on mixed terrain in about an hour and a half without too much bother, so I'm hoping I can work my way up to 25 miles in the coming month, and do it in under two and a half hours.

I'm currently riding my completely inappropriate 15 year old hulking Raleigh Max mountain bike, but I want to get into my cycling properly before I splurge several hundred quid on a proper new bike. Hopefully I can get stuck in over the summer so I can justify it next year sometime and start cycling to work and whatnot.

It's not really to do with how secure it is more the fact it's acting as a big lever and applying a lot of force where force shouldn't be that high.

Here is a aluminium full sus frame that had a rack mount on the back.

Haven't done it but you'll manage 25 miles in 2 hours with very little bother if you're of at least average fitness. :)

I'm not of average fitness ;) Well, I don't think so.

I can't run worth **** because my asthma kicks in. I can manage cycling and swimming much more easily, but hill climbs can still get me feeling tight.

But yeah, hopefully if I can pull this off then I can progress to bigger and better things!
