I really don't see what the fascination is with Strava. If it recorded and displayed all the data my Garmin collects then I might think about using it, but it doesn't.

tbh, I still much prefer Endomondo. Whilst the whole "segment" shebang on strava is nice, I like to be able to easily look at my statistics, to gauge my performance increases over time.

I use both, I use endondo to track the ride then export and upload to strava.

Endomondo has a low power mode option which I use (on a HTC One X)

Phone battery had only been charged for an hour or so when I went out yesterday and did just under 40 miles, still plenty of life when I got home.

Argh, just went out for a quick blast at lunch trying to beat a PB on a Strava segment - I've uploaded the data but it hasn't picked it up as the garmin data is a few metres out here and there :( Does anyone know how I can correct this?

You can raise a support ticket on strava.
Include the link to your ride and the link to the segment you think it should have matched.
Usually they are able to sort it for you.

I've done 12 hours on the bike before and Endomondo has used less than half my battery. But then I put my phone into airplane mode (which still allows GPS to function on Android) which saves a massive amount, and I believe can't be done in iPhone.

Cheers - It's a bit sad doing it but looking at the data i'm certain it's a PB so it's at least something!

I've heard it can be done on the iPhone, but that it goes wonky if it loses GPS signal. I'll have to try again sometime on a route I don't care about losing!

Are you not competitive at all? I like to try and beat other people's times. Some of the segments i know i will never challenge the top time, but i still try and get as high up the leaderboard as i can.

Two weeks ago I went out with one of the Dads from our NCT group (a Triathlete) and did my regular Henley loop. Half way around he asked if we could sprint for a post 350m away. He usually beats me. I agreed, we set off and I took him by half a wheel. I then turned around and exploded, screaming 'Yes! Yes! I took you!', like I'd just won the Green jersey or something! So yes, I am competitive :)

Since i'v started using strava i can push myself harder. Each hill i ride up, there is a time to beat. It was much easier before to take it easy up a hill or push a bit and give up before the top but i find i'm always riding harder now.
I'm also ride more as well. Sometimes if its a bit wet and cold i dont really feel like going out, i look at my phone and i'v got one of those damned emails "Uh Oh! George Hincapie just beat your time on Tourmalet Climb by 35 seconds!". Then 5 mins later, i'm off out in the pouring rain.

Good explanation. I like that. OK, will give it a whirl :)

How is Endomondo for battery life on the iphone? Any better than Strava? I get about 32 miles out of Strava and then it gives up the ghost.

Cyclemeter is without a doubt the best cycling app for iPhone.

Which iPhone do you have? 32 miles doesn't sound good but I suppose that depends on how long it takes you to do 32 miles? I run (ran Garmin 800 now) Cyclemeter & Strava at the same time and can do around 9 hours before I hit 10% battery on a 2 yr old iPhone 4.

If it a 4 or older then the battery might be on it's way out because 2~ hours out of the GPS before the battery is flat is really bad.
