Yep! Was gonna post some pics today, but it's been raining all day. £200 for the bike, Shimano A520 pedals, RT31 shoes (half a size too small, but they still just about fit, so gonna make do and then eBay them and buy some larger ones) and the few knick-knacks on the bike - mini pump, bottle cages, wedge bag. Really happy with it.

Nice deal!

Crc have Shimano spd shoes for £23 at the moment - I paid £40 for them a couple of weeks ago and they were good value then!!!!

Hey all, I have a problem with my current bike. The front brakes squeal anytime I press them. I've tried everything I can think of, I even replaced the brake pads 3 seperate times - all brand new, put the front wheel in the opposite direction. None of it works, the noise is driving me crazy :/ Does anyone have any tips?

Also when I say squeak, it's VERY loud

Angle the pads slightly so they touch at the back first. Sounds obvious but check there are no loose parts anywhere.

rough the pads up with a bit of grit paper too

update on the guy assaulting me.

police came tonoght very nice chap, asked me what happened, I told him, at the end he says ok.

The other party phoned in as well and gave his side which mirrors yours, he says he hit you etc, except he said you hit him with your bike, pushed it into him whcih is why he hit you.

I immediately went horse manure, then probably with anger traded a bit on what sort of an attacking position would it be sat on the bike, its an indefensible position if things escalate anyway, lying £$%^

anyhoo officer says well as they have to look at his side as well this could lead to a number of options including us both being cautioned for common assault, depending on the witness. (TBh the officer was really good so if in anyway he comes across as not its not my intention.) So how do I want to proceed ?

I said well I don't fancy a caution for avoiding an accident and then being punched, so would it be possible for him to call the witness and let me know before I make my decision as although what he did is ridiculous i wasn't really willing to risk a caution. He says no problem he's booked in for a 2 hour appointment with me so he'll get on it and get back to me. I was expecting like an hour or so ?

Anyway 15 minutes later, he knocks on the door again comes in witness wasn't 2 witnesses as I thought it was 4 in the car and they all 100% co-oberate what I say happened, I put my bike on the ground, got up and he hit me. So took a statement and will now speak to the other lying party and take it from there !

Sad thing is and this may well be me being soft, I said you know if he'd have phoned up and said I lost my rag, hard day at work, he hit my car, I'm really sorry blah blah I would probably have taken the option of having the officer go and have a few words with him and that would have been the end of it, however as hes a lying scumbag who effectively accused me of assault then proceed with the case.

what an idiot.

I agree. **** him if he wants to be a bitch about it.

I've got two court dates for a rose rage assault. He also came to my work car park to tell me to drop the charges. He is quite built and came with a big mate. His first words were...'remember me'.

He's up for the assault and witness indimidation. I wrote to the fiscal saying I'd like to not pursue it anymore, they didn't listen.

The actual assault I don't care about but how he handled it peed me off. If he had came up alone and said he just lost it and was sorry he'd probably not be going to court.

I got some R077 (not here yet) as I already have some MTB shoes, all the review comments I saw suggest to get a 1/2 to a whole size bigger than you normal shoes for the shimano stuff.

the M077 over the M087G?
only £6 more?

also, anyone got any advise on sizes, I'm uk 9-10.

Shimano are small. I'm a 9 and the ones I'm currently using are 43 and they're tight - I can only wear very thin socks with them, which will obviously be no good come winter. If you're 9-10, then a 45 is probably a fair bet.

nice, ordered myself some!

Shimano Shoes MTB M087G MTB SPD Shoes 45 - Silver
Shimano Pedals Clipless - MTB M520 Clipless SPD Pedals Black

:D

all I need now is to for my hand to get better!

I have a Shimano 47 in MTB shoes, road shoes a 48 was more comfortable. My MTB shoes are mega comfy though, they are the AM45's. Wear them for hours on end with no problems and just wash them with a sponge while im doing the bike and they come up like new.

Ended up getting size 48 Bont's instead, but I did try the Shimanos on, the Shimano shoe tapered a little bit more towards the end while the Bont is a wider fit.

Need some new brake pads, my bike has Sora callipers fitted which look to be an all one piece rubber pad. Most others seem to be metal backed with easily interchangeable rubber pads. Can I just buy these to replace mine?

Or a new set of Tiagra Callipers isn't much more, then ill have full Tiagra on my bike.

Must be getting better, had a couple of rides recently close to my PB and the weather has been pretty poor with winds making it difficult. Getting used to pushing the bigger gear around too, but the overlap between the small/big ring seems less pronounced. Moved from 50/34 to 52/39 and 12/25.

do different brake callipers really need different pads?
I don't even know why mine are (guessing some generic jobbies)

Anyone get out for a ride today? it was going great for me until the rain started pouring down :(

Only got 17 miles done but its the most i've done yet since having the bike. I should have done double the amount of miles but i was soaked. ah well there is always tommorow. better than sitting around doing nothing though. I definitely feel like im improving though as im pushing myself harder up the hills in a higher gear and not feeling quite as tired as before.

My brakes in the wet weren't great, will different pads make a difference? or is it just when its raining all brakes aren't great?

Lovely weather down south today, did 55 miles with the club. Thought it was going to be tough after a week off for holiday but it seemed like a good rest for me.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what the weather was going to do so I went out first thing and did 44k. I've been away all week and unable to use the bike so I wanted to make sure I got some miles in.
Roads were very wet, flooded in places, but overall it was a decent ride. Like minty I feel I'm pushing harder up hills these days and my average speed is creeping up slowly.

Did a solo London to Brighton run today to test my new shoes and Speedplay pedals. I got lost and ended up doing 66 miles to reach Brighton! Also fell off once when I stopped concentrating and forgot to un-clip, d'oh. Bike was fine but I shredded my right calf on the chain ring teeth lol.

Weather was sunny and roads were dry.

A week after getting my new bike, did my longest ever ride by quite a distance. Only really been doing quick 10 miles and pub runs so far so good to get into the longer ones. Took it slowly but didn't help that I got lost halfway as I thought I'd be creative with my route back rather then a straight out and back

36 miles in all http://app.strava.com/rides/19789615
Hoping to make it a regular weekly distance although feeling it in my legs atm
