I'm off to a bicycle "jumble sale" 50 mile round trip. Looking forward to it, sounds like computer fairs of old but full of bike bits. Suns out too :)

Found out what caused my garmin to report distances incorrectly. When it auto detects the wheel size it then causes the speed and distance to get screwed up.

I can't see how this can happen as it is such a big problem which would be simple to fix. You already have the GPS giving time and distance, so how it can be so wrong is beyond me.

I reset my garmin, then setout on a 50km ride, about 17km in it reported that it had detected the wheel size then my problems started. Finished the ride and it only showed as having ridden 33km. So that's not just a little out! On the remaining 33km it only detected half of those, but the GPS trace is spot on. During this time the speed jumps around from 0 to what I guess would be roughly the correct speed, but most of the time was sitting around 12kmh.

And the HR monitor wouldn't work properly in high winds, throws the readings right up, but reading online this is a common problem.

So far, not overly impressed!

On one of the descents once I reached the bottom, a car passed me, the guy in the passenger seat wound the window down and yelled out 60kmh!!! And the driver punched the air which made me smile :)

No cycling for me this morning, because the wife is in hospital to have a tooth out, so I'm on children duty. Will have to get out this evening once the kids are in bed and she's baked on painkillers.

Are there any London based OcUKers that want to go on a (casual) ride some time? Preferably when it's dry as bare carbon melts when exposed to water!:p

Maybe that would make me go out on bike more often:)
So I would be up for it.

Which part if London? Or trip outside it?

I live near Clapham Common. It would definitely be a ride to somewhere outside of London because the traffic sucks!

I've no idea where though, I was hoping someone else could decide.:p

First ride in 10 days as have had a back ache for a while :( not sure why but part new bike, work sitting and DIY i guess - fitted my new saddle a Spesh avatar comp as i have one on the mtb and love it so that was a great improvement!

Has anyone had a proper bike fit, i have back issues on and off due to a rtc years back and im keen to not make it worse through the road bike - im in Norwich so any suggestions for local bike fit?

Had a rose tinted glasses moment on todays ride, a down hill me and a mate used to storm down at indicated 48mph... i dont think i touched 48kmh today as it felt mental as you swoop round a left hander where 18 years ago i was no doubt peddling like a mad teen i was on the brakes today. Im thinking my speedo was not calibrated back then...

Meet in Richmond Park and then head down through Kingston, Esher and Surbiton to Cobham. From there you are in the Surrey hills and there is loads of good riding.

right.....its on complete opposite side of London for me...

would need to check if I could get a ride on trains all the way there as only trains allow bikes on...

Id like to meet up too, but not "just yet" i think i'll ride my bike a bit first , i don't want to look like a right tool infront of you lot! lol

hehehe no worry...I never cycled long distances...so if I would join, I would hope for 'normal' pace and not a race ;)

all in all they said 'casual' ;)

That "jumble sale" was amazing. I wasn't expecting much but there were some absolute bargains. I picked up all new and in packages/with tags:

2 pairs of dura ace brake pads £8
Assos overshoes £10
Assos toe covers £5
Assos skull cap (under helmet hat) £5
Castelli waterproof gilet £10

Some chap bought a pair of 105 shifters for £40. Absolute bargains galore. If I knew it was going to be such a gold mine I would have driven and filled the boot!
