Wow, hope you're OK. Are you going to the Beeston RC christmas curry on the 15th?

I should be yes, paid the deposit. Still feel a bit weird, off work and I don't feel comfortable driving.

Do you know what happened? Just slipped on ice or was there some sort of crash?

Just slipped on ice and hit my head. Was apparently ok to start with but then got worse, didnt know who I was etc so was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Refused to take my clothes off so they were cut off me so fairly expensive day in the end! Bike appears to be ok though.

That sucks, did you have a helmet on as if so i guess it did a good job if you still ended up with issues!

A good lunch time ride! :) Was very windy but felt quite strong.

Beat some guy up one of the climbs! Had a bit of a sprint to the top! Felt so good. But then he just left me on the decent!

Yeah had a helmet on, this is it

I have a first world dilemma.

It dawned on me today that I now actually prefer SRAM Rival on the Ti to the Ultegra on the Canyon. The Ti is currently the commuter and the Canyon is the weekender which is also worth about 1/3 of the price of the Ti.

I'm now wondering if I have this the wrong way around and the Canyon should be the commuter?

I'm getting together bits to revamp my Alan road bike for the spring/summer,

Im going carbon threadless, which will be the biggest upgrade over the current alloy threaded forks.

I have a full sram rival group, and I'm thinking of upgrading the chainset and front mech while I'm at it but I don't know if its that worth it...

Really winds me up when people say that there is no need to wear a helmet. And people that say wearing a helmet makes you more at risk of injury I just want to punch in the face and give them a head injury.

If there is any bone in your body you do not want to break it's your skull.

I'd just use whichever frame is most practical for a commute, irrespective of price.

And personally I'd just buy the sram groupset, you can pick up a couple of rival/force mechs and brifters up on ebay for not much, even last gen Red is going for reasonable prices (I got some red brifters for £150). Flog the Ultegra stuff, job done.

Yes! And you get Chris Boardman on the radio saying that you should not have to wear one.

Chris: "If it makes people feel safer, absolutely wear the hi-vis, wear the helmet, why not? Absolutely. In instances like this where we have a platform and were talking to an audience, with a limited amount of time what I worry about is you end up talking about symptoms and not cause".

Do you wear a helmet?

Chris: "It depends what I'm doing, if I'm riding down some little tracks near me, then no. If I'm going out on a MTB I'll take one. It's a piece of equipment to be used".

He's basically not an advocate of a compulsory helmet law.

And the statistics back this up. Cycling isn't statistically dangerous at all. Putting the frighteners on people telling them they have to wear a helmet reduces the amount of cyclists which is bad for everyone. Safety in numbers etc. Encourage yes. Force no.

You clearly need a Force groupset for the Canyon.

lol, theres nothing wrong with the Ultegra groupset on the Canyon. I've just grown to prefer SRAM it wouldn't be worth the expense to swap it out. But I see what you did there ;)

Jesus Christ! Either your memory is just amazing. Or you are Chris Boardman. Or you've relistened to the clip... :p

That does sound familiar now. But essentially he does say that you shouldn't have to wear one which is what I said. I just didn't put it into any context. :)

I do like a bit of the Sram double tap shifters :)
