Don't know about something giving updates but you could just filter the segment for entries made today - won't show where they are in the full leaderboard but you should be able to see his attempt at least.

Does anyone know of a tool for strava that will show me new attempts made at a segment? I rode briefly with a guy today who was heading up to one of the big hills near me, and I'd be curious to see how he got on, assuming he even uses strava. Something that would list changes to the leaderboard on a day by day basis or something. I've got his first name, so that should be enough if he's on there.

PS oh noes stalking!

srsly dude, there's an epic cute girl who I pass on the way home from work every day.
she's not on strava :(
just have to make do with drafting her a bit ;)

Thanks UniQ and all

No idea how to build a bike, not going down that route
I have a spesh so ive been trying to get a Tricross of ebay for ages now
last one I bid on, went for £415 that was with Tiagra groupset, Deore rear mech
so Im expecting it to go for more (£1200 new)

The tricross is a good bike, and I like the Crux as well.

If you do with that one though, remember to turn the stem over....

He can probably make back half the price of the bike by selling all the spare spacers the seller is kindly including.

I'm back in November Vonhelmet, going to borrow my dads late 90s touring bike complete with racks and have a crack at Belmont :p

i thought it was flipped
I did email him asking what gear ratio it is, and he haven't a clue how to find out, didn't say anything about the ultegra bit though, I think he just copied and pasted it and didn't edit it

is it easy to flip back over I need to?

Woo, 8.5km today with the Mrs in 35 minutes. Think its the second or third time shes had her bike out since we bought it. Shes started doing the RPM sessions at the gym, but with it being not too hot and quite a nice day today we went out together.

I took my MTB and hers is a Spesh hybrid of sorts, after 30 minutes of confusion about gears and what makes them harder and easier, and why one side is the oppposite to the other, I think in the last 5 minutes we almost cracked it.

Hopefully she will build some confidence up and we can do some more shortish rides around town together over spring/summer.

:D

There's a national cycle network route that goes over Belmont, part of the Lancashire cycle way, so I see tourers on there from time to time. Old guys with beards and the kitchen sink lashed to the back of the oldest bike in the world going up at 4mph on a massive sprocket.

guess I need to find a new route for when It's rained the previous day...

There is a better route by going going slightly north at the roundabout before newburn then right past the tyre place and then you get onto another stretch of the 72 route. This will meet up with the route I expect you go on by taking the short steep gravel section just passed warburtons. You are back on the nicer trails towards wylam then. It also avoids the pretty but very glass covered but right along the tyne

yea I checked google maps first person mode last night and saw you could skip the crappy bike path by staying on the pavement along scots wood road.

I think the bikepath ends where I usually take the "short cut" but the path carries on all the way down and sort of cut's downwards under the roundabout bit and comes back out near a bus stop.

I'll do that next time..

for newburn your talking about skipping this part along the tyne? I've not bothered going down as far as wylam apart from once because on the other side of the river riding towards gateshead for 1-2miles near wylam is a really ***** narrow mud track that's only about as wide as my handle bars are

although I don't think you need to turn off into the industrial estate like that because I got lost the first time I did this route and somehow ended up towards lemmington/scotswood road anyway (coming from wylam and heading towards the city centre)
think I might nip out again in 20mins or so tbh :D
really need to clean and degrease my chain after yesterday but CBA :D

BTW near that warbuttons factory always smells so damn good :(

Nice. You might have passed some of my usual gang, who were heading to Delamere this morning. And we probably missed each other by minutes on the way back up from Leigh to Atherton!

On the subject of nice houses, etc... Newton-Le-Willows is very pretty. St. Helens is most definitely not.

There are some REALLY rough parts to Newton too, but on the way in, from Lowton, there are some great houses, east is nicer than the west. I looked at some houses to buy there but Lowton St Lukes felt more homely.

I've got a weird problem with my crank/chainring. Since putting a new chain/cassette on (new 9sp chain/cassette, existing 9sp chainrings) I'm getting a weird creak/vibration when I pedal. It's only occurred since putting the new parts on and only when using the big ring. I originally thought it was related to the fact I'd snapped a crank bolt a week or two ago and was running one short but since replacing it it's still there.

The vibration/creak is felt when putting power in on both sides of the crank rotation (ie push one pedal, then the other and it's felt on the downwards push of both). I've only had the bike since last August but I'm leaning towards it being a worn chainring. It seems like it's worn really quickly if that's the case. If not then I'm stumped.

I can't reproduce the problem off the bike though so looking to check the chain and CR are meshing properly is out because it looks like it is when I pedal by hand.

Anyway, anyone know where I can find a cheap 46t outer ring for an FSA Omega Compact 46/36 9sp crank?

I guess someone with your miles would have done this anyway.

grease the bolts lightly for the crank ring (supposed to let you get them tighter without ruining the threads)
tighten them up pretty damn tight

I tighten mine as far as I can get them but I'm only using an Allen key that's about 4-5 inches long so not much leverage.

although when mine were not tight enough I only got a creak/vibration on the downwards stroke of the pedal on the crank side.

it was once every rotation and really annoying, I did them about half a turn tighter and it went away

this website seems pretty good for finding out where noises are coming from

Just got back from Majorca, not a cycling holiday but took a day trip to Pollenca to hire bikes and tackle Sa Calobra. What a climb, almost had to stop near the middle but battled through and finished it.

The descent off Col de Sa Batalia was amazing, and I don't normally like descending.

Afterwards I felt hungover though and felt rough for the rest of the day, must have been a combination of heat, exhaustion and sun. It must have been 28 degrees going up Sa Calobra!

Went pack for pretty much the same ride as yesterday and took my phone :D
quayside market was on so had to walk for about 5 minutes through the market...

haha some guy drove through it just as I was taking a photo :D
if the photo were taken a few seconds later you would have seen just how deep it was, half of his wheels disappeared

Okay so the sign says "diversion" they obviously know when it rains a lake appears so why don't they dig a small trench heading towards the river so it drains away?
