Any suggestions of trousers I can wear for my relatively short work commute? My shorts are fine a lot of the time but when I'm feeling ill in the morning (seems to be happening a lot at the moment) my tolerance for cold goes out the window.

I'm not a huge fan of lycra. I just would like some relatively warm but extremely flexible cycling trouser things I can wear.

perhaps these?

I've ordered from them before without issue but never returned so can't help on that, however I wear a small Oxygen which fits well and I'm 5'5'', 34'' chest if that is of any use.

I'd say Gore's size chart is pretty accurate.

Cheers. I'll measure up once I get home. :D

@FrenchTart

Why not buy some lycra/merino tights to wear under your shorts?

It was only last week I mercilessly mocked uv on here for wearing that kind of thing and asked him why he didn't just buy a garter belt and stockings instead. I don't think I can ever get away with wearing those kind of things now :p

Those look pretty decent actually. I have had a few sets of Endura gloves and I quite like the brand. My LBS will probably stock them too if I ask.

Commuted in for a 15 minute meeting. On the way back I had to keep checking I wasn't in the big ring it was that windy I was struggling to peddle. Free resistance training ftw :)

Just got the date of my upcoming surgery, 31st Oct :(

Didn't realise it would be that soon! I'll certainly miss being on my bike for a month or so.

Some serious mile cramming is due I think then, if the weather isn't complete crap. Bloody windy out there at the moment!!

what's your operation for? I'm assuming you wouldn't mention it if you didn't want people asking.

trying to cram the miles in myself too just because I know the weather is going to stop me :(

I'm trying to get out there at every opportunity even if it means only doing around 7 miles and falling off at the local park :(

The rain just started hammering down here :( I could likely have done my usual 20-25mile route and been back in plenty of time before the rain came and I likely wouldn't have slipped off on a bunch of wet leaves either :(

I have an orbital tumour, so that needs to come out.

I assume, despite being off work for a bit, that I might actually feel quite fit and raring to get on the saddle quite soon after, as it won't directly affect the rest of my body.

We'll see.....

I bought the Humvee shorts (padded liner) for when I was mountain biking, they were and still are brilliant

Done my first 'more than just riding around where I live' ride today. Only around 6.5 miles each way to the gym and back but it's a lot longer than anything I've done before (not counting when I was a kid).

It's a very slight gradient down pretty much all the way so getting there was pretty nice and simple and done it in about 30 minutes (don't know exactly; stopped a couple of times to buy a helmet, and pop into CEX) on my slightly-too-small-for-me MTB with bottomed out front suspension and 1.95" wheels (can't wait to be able to afford a road bike!).

After the gym, my legs were like jelly already, so riding back slightly uphill all the way in the horrible rain (it was sunny after I finished! :() wasn't nice and it was SO good to jump in the shower when I got back home. Took about 40 minutes to get back.

My arms and hands ached a bit when I was riding back, plus my behind started hurting as well on both journeys :(
