Toughest local hills? All of them

To be honest Newcastle is fairly flat, most hills are short enough to power up no matter how steep.

Back at home strava shows a cat 3, 1.4miles of 7.4%: http://www.strava.com/segments/1017099

Haven't ridden it but would like to be able to get up it, doubt I'd be able to yet but will certainly be giving it a go once I've got a few more miles in and have the bike back at home again.

No idea what the toughest/steepest is, but this is by far my favourite:

I think vale street could be one of the steepest nearby:

Funny race setup today.

Two short races with points for each from 1st to last from all grades. First race a handicap and second a scratch.

Won the first race with a massive performance up the climb, dropped my group and took 20 seconds off my PB and flew past the riders off before us with a hill top finish.

Raced the second scratch race in B grade but the quicker B graders rode up in A grade so automatically scored more points than me. Ended up in a sprint finish where I got third, gave the winner a beautiful lead out!

Ended up being second overall in B as my big points haul from the first race put me right up there.

The Cervelo practically pedals itself up the climbs ;) much stiffer when pedalling, no wasted energy at all and the improved ride left me feeling less battered.

Got up, hangover, checked forecast crazy assed wind.

Decided to take my own advice and MTFU. Got out for 25mi and set a PR up my favourite hill 8secs faster than my previous PR. Win!

Yeah, I'm last on a segment because I had to stop to repair a puncture.

I was doing a great TT route once (practising) and had to stop whilst a field of cows emptied into a nearby one opposite the road. Well cheesed me off as I calculated around a minute improvement on my time which as others have said strava does not factor out pauses.

So what are you guy's toughest local hills (say within 10 miles)?

Plenty of proper hills around here. Average ride tends to be 800 - 1000ft per 10 miles.

Norwood edge is on my regular loop - about 5 miles from my house. Notice who is in 7th place! The KOM is a young 16 year old lad from our cycling club who is competing in the National Hill Climbs today.

Greenhow is about 12 miles away, and is the longest/toughest around here I think - Tejvan holds the KOM! :

Been out this morning and got 40 miles in. Lovely day for it, even in the headwind.

This new bike I bought has SPD SL pedals fitted which I want to remove to fit SPD's. I've managed to get one off, but the other one won't budge.

Anyone have any suggestions on removing it?

you doing it wrong?
RIGHT PEDAL IS RIGHT THREADED which means
you tighten it by turning clockwise
you loosen it by turning anti-clockwise, or from top towards the rear of the bike.
This is normal threading.

LEFT PEDAL IS LEFT THREADED which means
you tighten it by turning anti-clockwise
you loosen it by turning clockwise, or from the top towards the rear of the bike.
