Road Cycling Essentials

I'm recovering from labyrinthitis so went for a short ride tonight to see if I was fit to ride yet. My balance going straight was good enough but corners were more difficult. The major problem was looking behind me so it looks like I'll have to wait a while yet before I can ride safely.

It's even making me consider buying a turbo trainer as I'm finding it very frustrating not being able to ride and it's only been 2 weeks.

tredz asked me to send my knog back to them for inspection, apparently they come with lifetime warranty for the straps.. we'll see what the outcome is! but I've only got a weak (15lmn) rear light for now... boo

I can heartily recommend one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00452O6LI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

Edit I was talking crap about the price, the new cheaper price has a big dollop of postage so it is about £12 in total

never again will I have a light with AAA batteries so annoying when you leave work and it looks bright and as if it has enough power and then 5 miles down the road you notice that there's little to no light coming out of it.. I got spoiled with battery indicators and the fact that I can just plug my knog(lol) into usb port and charge it while at work :o

thanks for the link tho!

I stripped down my 2008 trek 1.2 today in preparation of replacing the groupset to a 105. Gave it a good clean up, will practically be a new bike when I put it back together. In any case, outstanded by how light it is as a bare bones bike, seems lighter than my housemates bmc which is full carbon.

Anyway, I'm in need of some new cleats so thinking of just getting new peddles. What should I pair with a 105? Ideally looking for best bang for buck without being too cheap, ideally nothing more than 50 pounds, could I get something reasonable for that?

As I missed ASDA cycle clothing sale, can you recommend me a cycling jacket that would be warm and windproof?
I'm thinking about pearl izumi 180 but is there anything cheaper that can be considered?
Thanks

Did 63kmh for about 150m on Strava, was spinning out the gear I was in. No idea if I had more gears left, the only downside of SRAM, if I had been in the 11 and gone for another gear, it would have down shifted me into the 12 and I'd have been screwed.

Think you'd be alright, if you're in your smallest sprocket and go to shift up it will click but nothing will happen. It would only jump to the 12 if you pushed the lever in far enough to shift up as you usually would.

So my ankle (broken/ligament damage previously) is playing silly buggers, and I've had to drive today. Eugh, such an unpleasant experience.

Just pray to God you won't have any problems with your fibre flare as they have shocking customer service or scratch that it's non existans. Well at least you are covered with the shop.
I'll never buy fibre flare again as my one failed just outside a year of usage.
Yes, they do fail from bad weather easily. I won't be replacing any more, the Exposure Blaze is ridiculously light enough now, along with something attached to my helmet.

How bright is the fibre flare? Looks like a nice light but in the video on their website you could barely see it once the bike was only a couple of metres away.
It's not super bright, it just has the advantage of producing light to all angles, and a large surface area of light.

Tested it on rollers tonight and it doesn't I'm afraid :(

Push it and it changes down straight away, little bit more and it will drop two gears quite easily.

I can double check in the work stand, but the levers are pretty sensitive so be easy to bugger it up in a sprint.

Edit; If you are in the big or small ring on the front and want to shift the front derailleur press over to change up/down and then change your mind, you can continue pushing the lever across and it will cancel the shift.

Not the case for the RD though.

saw a guy go down pretty hard on a major roundabout this morning. It's slippy out there, be careful...

Fortunately it wasn't me this time. New tyres, new grips and a 4cm longer seat post say me out on the Brompton for my first ride since my off. Shoulder is still giving me gyp. Hoping to get out on a proper bike this weekend.

I like my Endura Windchill II Jacket that was a little bit cheaper but looks to be very similar.

I broke my foot and sprained my ankles 6 times! and tore the ligament twice over the past 2 years! currently I have no pain but a lot of "creaking" coming out of my right ankle.. guess when I get older those BMX injuries like cracked elbow etc will come back..
