Sure. It's based on an ancient recipe called Iskiate, which the Tarahumara use on their long runs (I found it when getting started in ultra running and reading about Scott using it amongst other people). Really simple to make.

  • 1 glass of water (the thin tall tumblers you get from tesco for about £1 for 4)
  • 1 Tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 fresh lime or lemon juiced
The receipe then calls for a teaspoon of honey but I find that too sweet so don't bother.

All you do then is put the ingredients together and leave for about 15 minutes, the chia seeds soak up a lot of the liquid and produce a weird gel type substance. You can either just drink it - weird consistency but you get used to it, or you can strain the remaining liquid out, add some oats (for carbs) and leave in the fridge in a tray to set, and then cut into energy bars. That's it.
Despite buying the seeds after reading this months ago...I just got around to making a batch. Chilling in the fridge now.

Definitely a turbo weekend down South!

Might have today off though, did a squat session in the gym for the first time in 2 weeks on Thursday and a sufferfest last night - I had to lift my legs out of bed this morning!!!

No cycling for me this morning... I'm taking a break to take my 4 year old to soft play. Flipping knackered!

FAO: physichull - I'm probably going out tomorrow afternoon if you fancy meeting up. We could meet down in Golborne and head up through Hindley and then past Haigh and Blackrod and over Rivington. It's set to be a bit windy and maybe drizzly but it should be ok. I'll see if Damien, who may still be lurking here, wants to come out as well.

No cycling for me either. Been off training all week with a cough/cold so annoying.

If anyone happens to be after a TT helmet merlin are doing Bell Javelins for £60 down from £180. I'd buy one if I didn't already have one!

Porridge sprinkled with plenty of rule #5 & #9 for breakfast this morning:

STORMAGEDDON!!!!!

20mph+ winds with gusts hitting about 50. There was a bit near the end which is without doubt the toughest wind I've ever cycled into. Came down a hill and turned sharp right into the wind - 34/25, standing up, and i genuinely thought i was going to come to a standstill. Mental.

So the other week this turned up...

Then got this email through...

Then today this happened...

My first cat 4 race.

Quite a short one at only 30 mins plus 5 laps. The circuit was flooded so the course length was reduced.

Think I did ok, should have made more of an effort to stay with the bunch as the wind was fierce and I ended up spending 90% of the race riding by myself.

Anyway all aims for the day were met, I didn't crash, I wasn't lapped and I didn't come last :D

Yeah Beeston. Nottingham Uni then? I live a few miles further out from Beeston but when I was looking for a club they seemed best.
