Anyone able to offer a quick guide how to get my Garmin working with rollers? Do I just disable gps so it uses the magnet?

which one? if you hasve magnet sensor this is first priority for speed on most devices over gps anyway. if not turn it off in the status menu.

speaking of which, why does my garmin 800 speedo fluctuate? if I'm still it goes up and down, up and down

When I'm moving say at 90 cadence all the time in same gear, speed changes all the time

Possibly being made to do the "Fred Whitton Challenge" this weekend. Cycling around the lakes and up Hardknott Pass. I think I may actually die :S

On the bright side I've just realised that my old Cotic X has 50/34 gearing so I'm probably going to swap it out with the 46/36 that's on my XLS in order to hopefully suck at those hills slightly less...

It's not just Hardknott, don't forget about Holbeck Lane, Kirkstone Pass, Matterdale, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Fangs Brow, Cold Fell and Wrynose. :p

My friend is insane and I think we're now doing a two-day route that does them all. Shame to not (fail) them all in one day but... heyho...

Sounds like you need a triple, a 32t and some new shifters :p

My Cotic was actually 34/50 with 12/32  and I still struggled with hills :p Thankfully I'm a little fitter these days...

I did it 4 years ago. Was still pretty new to cycling and didnt know much about nutrition, etc (and generally wasnt very fit). I think that day still counts as my worst day on a bike.
Took me 8:28, i was completely ruined by the end :(

I think somebody (or 2?) on here did it this year?

Thankfully I've learnt my lessons about nutrition at least so I'll be taking in the maximum amount of kcal actually possible outside of eating contests :p

I fully expect to fail and feel like crap - but that's all part of the fun, right? I'm massively more fit than I was at the start of the year but that probably puts me at the point where you would describe yourself as unfit :p

Twas me. I took a 34/32 bottom gear and didn't regret it for a second.

Took the bike out for a ride today, nothing fell off! Think i'm going to add aero brake levers to my list of things to buy when i go back up to Aberdeen, i don't mind the cable routing on these but the actual area of the hoods you can put your hands on is pretty small and it get uncomfortable after a while.

Have an imgur album!

I have the cyclops classic mag trainer whatever you call it. I do 2-4 hrs per week on it of hard intervals. It has no resistance lever but why would you need one? I can crank upwards of 500w on it, on my compact chainset. In other words you could save a bit of money and get a cheaper version.

Has anyone climbed the Grand Colombier, specifically the Artemare - Virieu le Petit - Colombier route? Just wondering at what 19% gradient for 2.5kms is like..
