I managed 210kg squats and 550kg legpress when rowing and training daily, bodyweight circa 72kg!

Now I just do low weight core stuff (kettle bell circuits) and squats mostly for my running, but obviously benefits my cycling.

1RM max or working set? Either way, damn impressive squatting :)

For those of you who have a few £££ in your pocket burning you.

The Garmin 800 (headunit only) is £160 at the rainforest shop.

Ive just picked one up. Impulse buy.

Guys my Triban 3 has developed a fantastically loud clicking/crunching noise when peddling with any kind of force. I'm fairly sure that the bottom bracket has chewed a bearing, but it might be the bearings in my 4 yr old spd pedals are worn out.

Is there a quick way to confirm what it is without taking the bike apart as I only have limited time and tools? The bike is only 3 months old so hopefully if its the BB the shop will replace it under warranty.

Try turning the cranks without the pedals moving?

anyone of you guys watched the ToB in real-time?

how does one know when they are coming through your village ?

certainly don't want to miss tomorrow !!

I will be standing on Chinnor Hill probably (cat 2)

Im going to leave work early ride out and watch it as well,

I think im going to watch it at the top of kingston hill, they will be coming over the M40 and then over the staggered crossroads i dont think many people will watch there so gives me a good chance of getting some nice pics

What is it with a lot of us in this thread recently getting into accidents or having operations? 3 weeks ago I suffered a blowout on a descent in France and crashed headfirst at 40mph into a rockface which i posted about on here. Very lucky and thought I'd got away with just 15 stitches in my face and a bruised back. My back hasnt been getting any better though so been to see a spinal specialist and had various scans and I've crushed four vetebrae in my spine and most probably need an op! Hoping to get the op done next week (Kyphoplasty) which leads to a recovery time of six weeks before I can do strenous exercise again!
I'd had a good year of cycling this year, was feeling really fit and was on course to do 5000+ non-commuting miles just hope I dont lose too much of it whilst I'm out of action.

Bike fixed! First shop had stripped the cranks off for me and were pretty reasonable overall even if I think they could have done the job but couldn't fit me in or couldn't be arsed. They didn't charge me much so I bought a magazine too.

Picked up the bearings, decent Japanese branded ones and less than or similar price to a bike specific brand, stopped off at another shop on the way home where we got my wife's bike from, just rolled up with the frame and bearings, but they fit me in straight away despite undergoing a shop renovation. I gave him a bit of a hand and I was on my way in 30 minutes, put the cranks back on at home and test rode tonight.

All good, I have a slight click noise which developed last week, I thought it might have been the BB after it broke, it's not so I think it may be a pedal spindle that needs greasing or something.

At least it was a simple fix, one of the bearings was totally goosed, glad I wasn't chasing the noise for ages! Better order a proper bearing drift and press for future as well as a spare set of bearings. Always handy to have spares on the shelf at home, but BB bearings wasn't something I had considered.

New toy. Ribble r872

Have you considered trying something like gym work to see if it helps? Though nowhere near as serious as your injury I used to have a dodgy knee and improving my mobility and balancing the strength of my muscles in my legs with squats and deadliffts really helped (to the point where I no longer ever get annoying periods where my knee decides it wants to hurt for a few weeks).
It's putting force through the joint that has been irritating it the most, hence not riding fixed gear at the moment, but it almost feels like it has turned into a bit of an RSI type injury. I think squats will irritate it further at the moment, especially if I load myself up with weight. I think a period of rest is in order, maybe ride in once a week (which is going to be REALLY frustrating) and maybe drop the gearing on my current setup from 14-19 to 14-21 or 14-24 depending what gears I've got in the box, so I can really just creep along and keep the base fitness up.

Not looking forward to getting fit from scratch next year, because I've worked quite hard to get myself to where I am :p

Nice bike. I'm considering the r872 for when I get a carbon bike. I'd quite like to try sram on it, though, so I'd have to buy it with sora or something and then upgrade it myself.

Only been round the block when I collected it on Tuesday and not had chance last few days but going out for an hour shortly. I'll report back after.

It looks nicer than pictures, I was a little unsure whether to go for this or gran fonda for more sportive position but quick ride I had the position seems really nice on a 50 frame for me. It's campag Athena groupset with carbon levers and campag zonda wheels and itm carbon bits

You don't have to load up on weights with squatting. Just the movement and the accompanying mobility work can do wonders. But I can completely see your worries about aggravating the injury further :)

1RM though did on occasion manage two, but yeah for a small fella not bad!

Nice. I never really worked out my 1RM but I didn't go above 105 or 110KG for my working set (5x5) and I'm pretty sure I weighed (and still weigh no doubt) a fair bit more than you :p

If I buy a frame with canti/mini-v brake mounts can I use them with drop bar levers?

I'm planning on buying a single speed bike next year, and I'll most likely buy second hand, but I'm also eyeing up something like the On One Pompino frame, as it comes with rack mounts as well as mudguard mounts, and given that the bike may end up as a commuter, that could become a key concern. Much as I think the Genesis Flyer is beautiful, no rack mounts means it's not ideal as a commuter.
