Road Cycling

I just started using SPD-SL shoes last month after nearly 3 years of just SPDs and I think I've finally got the right cleat in a good position. I was having to fiddle with it after every ride because it just wasn't quite comfy. It's a nightmare!

I should have photographed the setup before I removed the old one but thought drawing round it would work as it's what I've done previously.

First ride home for me of the year yesterday, lovely weather and found a new route that goes over the river thames:)

Does anyone know the best place to sell a bike? i guess theres eBay and Bikeradar?

Discovered why I felt so unstable in the corners...wasn't totally my confidence after all but I had apparently not re-attached the front wheel tight enough so it had a fair amount of wobble......whoops!

Better get buying some clothes as my lighter gear is all too big now. Any recommendations for the taller gent? I'm 6.2 and I think my upper body is long, I find DHB I'm having to take Xl which is still not as long as I would like, but also baggier than I would hope for.

Looks a good bag but if anyone asked if I 'had a wedgie' I wouldn't be able to say no!:p

What's it like for waterproofing? Hardly any of them list how waterproof they are which for me would be 1 of the most important things for a saddle bag! Last thing you want is your tools/wallet/keys getting wet...

tore my split link in two this morning with the raw power of my quadzzz

Are you grudas?! :D

'Quicklinks', I don't have any spares and probably should have some. Are they fairly universal? Looking at these as 11 speed Shimano/KMC? My chain is a KMC X11L (out of stock...). Wiggle list 'Card of two links' - would that be 2 quicklinks or just the two sides of a single link? And that they're 'Non Re-usable' - I thought the whole point was that they're reusable! Making me think I've got the wrong thing???

Ordered the Northwave Celsius GTX yesterday, was sure there was 1 pair left in size 43 (kinda why I ordered) but they've gone on to back order! Sure hope they don't get cancelled, or if they do it's while this sale is still on and I'll grab the Celsius Arctic instead... Which now don't have any 43's left, gah! May have missed my chance... :(

Also grabbed a Primal jersey to try out sizing (Wiggle doing me a deal after I asked them questions - they don't know how they size up yet!), nice jersey and if I like the quality I'll be ordering the 'loud' one I linked a few days ago too! ;)

Had numb 'palms' after my ride on monday when wearing my cheapy short fingered so also ordered some Gripgrab Supergel short fingers. The long fingered are a little more expensive so a guy from work let me try his Endura Full Monty which were amazing, so I'm probably grabbing a pair while they're on offer over at Evans'...

Glad I get paid soon! ;)

Clear nail varnish, I was advised this for my steel MTB when I crashed it into a wall last year.

Any cleaning/isopropyl first?

The clip on version looks much more usable than the one with the straps that I have. With it pulled tight enough not to shift around the bag itself is squeezed in the middle. The zip is also right up against the saddle which makes it a pain to get in, I'd certainly get the clip on one if I was buying another.

I was whinging about not getting out for a ride so my wife said, why not just go round the block a couple of times before sunset. I decided to give it a bit more stick than usual over a short route. Good average speed for me but I couldn't have kept that pace up for much longer - https://www.strava.com/activities/281053058

Good ride and average speed! Thanks for the bag suggestion, I do want it quick to remove else it'll bug me when commuting.

I wouldn't take too much from looking at the pro's for saddle position!

'bay prices have always seemed good for S/H bikes. 'umtree may be better for selling locally.

I'm not sure that the body increases in length much in addition to the chest.

Some brands might give you measurements of the length...

Roady, try Rose Bikes or Merlin for the road versions, cheapest I could find in almost all sizes in the GTX and Arctic.

Otherwise Evans had a few pairs very cheap but very few sizes left.

11 speed ones aren't officially reusable but I've heard a lot of reports that the KMC ones can be reused. I'm still on 10 speed for everything myself, at least in part because I think this is stupid.

Dropped the bike build off at the LBS to get the steerer cut and headset fitted... and also to get the brakes bled as nowhere local to me stocks the bleed kit (either that or say that they won't sell it to customers as they don't want people to ruin their brakes - sigh). A bit annoying to have to get another thing done by the LBS rather than doing it myself for the build but it's not like bleeding brakes is that exciting anyhow.

My blingy lightweight SPD peddles apparently won't arrive for weeks either so I'll be stuck on heavier peddles for a bit. Also stuck on my old rotors as the Ashima rotors I ordered are still in transit. Minor stuff though and with luck the bike will be ridable pretty soon.

Loud BB7 squeel is loud. Ordered some Muc-Off Disc cleaner and some organic pads, hopefully this along with some proper bedding in will stop the noise!

think I want a 50-60mm wheelset for my carbon bike?! should I go chinese with carbon/alu rim? or go full carbon ?

my SS is now my main commuter, so carbon bike can get some nice wheels on it for those longer summer rides.

any recommendations? I'd around £400 is my top end budget
For road duty with clinchers I'd go with aluminium rim. It can take a lot more abuse, plus wet braking.

Ok thanks mate, I was originally going with Wiggle due to their sale (combined with excellent free returns if they're not a good fit for me ;)), I don't mind them on back order (providing they don't get cancelled) as I hope I won't really need them any time soon! It's 17 degrees here now! :D

Evans don't have any in 43 either, although they do have some 44's... I feel I could fit into a 'large' 42 shoes but boots I may be wearing in the winter I want a little room to wear thicker socks if needed...

Thanks for that mate, I'm imagining they're the same as the link on my chain already (which I've taken off and refitted ok). Imagine after a few removals/refits they'll feel a little looser with a danger of coming undone - and then would be a good time to change/replace them. Evans have the Silver X11L for £27, Wiggle are nearly £40 when in stock!

My zonda's have taken a battering over the winter and still solid, true and can't be faulted. For the price they are a steal.

I must have had a Friday afternoon set then, as after 12 months & 5,600 miles the rear hub was beyond repair.
Replaced them with Mavic Cosmic Elites & it's been solid, requiring no attention other than the usual service.

I certainly wouldn't buy another set of zonda's, however I'm interested in seeing people's thoughts on the Pro Lite Bracciano's that Grudas linked to at Wiggle.

I think it is pretty resistant. I can't say I've had specific experience. When I've washed it in the washing machine it is wet on the inside... The fabric is waterproof I think, there are lips on the zip which can help to keep the water out.

little chance of someone from forums owning a set, I had experiance with prolite parts before and they were good quality, overall part list of that wheelset looks good too!

they're not the lightest but I can't see 200grams or so doing much tbh :o

Really enjoyable extended commute on the way home, filtering excluded! Loved it. Some chap caught me up completely knackered exclaiming "Bloody hell you took some catching!". Was secretly pleased because I wasn't really trying! Hehe! Either way, a pleasant chap and got chatting for a fair bit on the East Lancs cycle path.
