Rest day today :/ So took a short commute. I hate rest days.
Tried taking it as easy as possible, but my HR monitor was acting a little odd, didn't get above 95bpm for the whole commute :O Think maybe it was the cold start, I've got a spare one so I'll give that a go tomorrow.

Not sure what my plans for the weekend are. I've got quite a bit of work that requires exclusive access to the computer system, so I should really come in. I won't get paid for it though, so finding it hard to drum up the motivation :P
Weather looks dry down South, so will probably do a couple of rides. Keen to hit the coast, to find flatter ground. Getting jealous of FT's average speeds :P
Hopefully group ride on Sunday.

Any idea where you will be heading? We should be heading into the Peaks again too.

Staying near Matlock, so hoping to hope to head east to and past Hartington, then north towards Buxton but cut off to Tideswill. Up to Hope, across, down to skirt Chatsworth and through Bakewell back to the cottage.

Well...I've kind of procrastinated a lot :p Finishing this coffee and then I'll head out. Planned a nice route for tomorrow through the Goyt and Macclesfield Forest but I'm still not sure what to do today. I may end up going for uv's KOM after all :p

I see you've produced a nice route on Strava. Speaking of Macc Forest, I went up here: https://www.strava.com/activities/401314851/segments/9618219104 for the first time the other week on a ride. I didn't know that hill existed, it gets pretty steep towards the top

Been in the US for a week with work, even my 9 mile commute felt like a struggle :o

Carrying around 3 kg of treats for my team in my rucksack probably didn't help!

Read that as 3kg of treats on you :D Guessing it is more than that actually.

just passed my driving test, you lot need to start paying road tax and have insurance!! redlight jumpers everywhere, not wearing a helmet! danger on the roads!

Lol, well done dude. Currently studying for my theory. Hazard perception drives me insane

Thanks! found it very easy tbh! they don't mind if you flag more than once, basically flag as soon as you see something move :D

on a different note, new steed... :)

will be used as a commuter/gym/all around bike with my other bike being a sunny/summer bike and single speed will soon be gone I hope! :o

full satin black yo! might add some colour later but for now I liked it blacked out!

Nice looking bike :)

However, I'm not sure why they'd stick a 140mm rotor on the back - it saves literally like 10 grams, for less braking power. Nice paint job though, way better than the red and white :)

Well, just had my first taste of Hardknott pass, and, NOPE! Not ready for that yet!

Also, found a great way of mounting my gopro to my helmet using my wrist strap, really secure too.

Awesome effort mate, as mentioned previously - you didn't know until you tried, the fact you put a great effort into it will really improve your riding!

The climbs on the way to HKP were bad enough, a few looong steady climbs around 10-12%. I had a stitch at one point early on in the ride (probably due to that mcdonalds at lunch), i managed to shake that off though, and i was getting twitched in my leg by the time i got to HKP so wasn't going to risk any injury. I've got something to work towards there though, the 20.2 mile ride itself wasn't that bad, even if it is my longest so far. I'll get to the big 40 / 50 milers eventually, but i am getting more conditioned now.

Well done for pushing through a stitch, the times I've had them have usually been on the flat - which is more than bad enough!

20-30 mile rides are a good level to aim for and having a target like HKP to aim for will really help to focus your 'training' and efforts as you have something to compare them to.

You live in a great area for hills and climbing, so I would focus your efforts on tackling those rather than overall speed - certainly once you have the power and technique to climb anything 8%-15% average thrown at you (regardless of distance) you will find tougher climbs 'easier'. I say 'easier', it never gets any easier, you just find you can push harder for longer while maintaining higher speeds on them. Speed on the flats will naturally get better as your climbing gets better, many riders get this wrong and concentrate on fast easy fairly flat loops and then wonder why they can't climb hills!

I'd actually say that featuring hardknott pass into any kind of training plan is pretty hardcore :p It's a really horrible hill, at least the side I climbed it from (coming on to it from Wrynose). I think that side is steeper but either way it's a world of pain.

^ pro looking bike. When are you sticking some mudguards on it? :p

Looks like uv lost one of his KOMs just now. Totally easy ride. Definitely didn't really hurt or anything ;)

I need to give Artists another go sometime though. He's been 1 second faster than me for like a year :(

Mudguards are like discs. For pussys. Hahaha

Love the look of that, it's mean as!

I haven't cycled much this past two weeks! wonder how slow I'll be after this!

14mph.

Looks nice, specs? Is it just another copy of FT's?

I'd actually say that featuring hardknott pass into any kind of training plan is pretty hardcore :p

I'd intended it as a 'target', not running training programme of hill reps on it :p

A couple of nights this week on my commutes home I've come across another guy who seems quick and rides a similar commute to me. He's a bit of a grudas filterer too and has lost me a couple of times in traffic (and I'm no slouch) but then equally I've had him a couple of times on the fast flat parts. Came across what must've been him this morning (for the first time in the AM) and had a good chase for most of my commute to finally drop him on the long stretch of Kings Acre. He actually said 'good morning' back at me today (after my greeting and the last few evenings of my 'evening' going unanswered). He's not on Strava so no Flyby/stalking :(

Still today's morning commute is one of my fastest for quite a while, under 15 mins door to door! :D

Although nowhere near the 18mph average I'm sure I can do with a bag of luck (lights and junctions, this mornings was about the best for many months).
