Oo, that looks like the sort of thing I'm after. Which one did you get?

Overboard Premium - 30litre in blue. End of line stock on Amazon for £35. It's not on the overboard website any more as its been replaced by a couple of newer, fancier models. They have some current line ones on Amazon that are much more expensive.

Pretty foggy this morning - was a big nervous but the traffic is slow enough in most places that it's not too bad.

I tried my new super duper waterproof rucksack. It's an Overboard Premium rucksack which you can literally dunk underwater, so it should probably just about cope with Manchester weather. It's a bit bulky and it's not the lightest, but it sits pretty well on my back so it should be alright.

I got one of these: https://www.alpkit.com/products/gourdon-30

They are awesome! basically a drybag with straps but works very well. wanted the 25ltr but sold out and it looks like they do a 20 if 30 to big, for £25 a bargain!

I stuff 2 of these in my kayak and everything inside stays bone dry so 100% confident when I cycle with it - read some reviews, excellent kit for the price.

I feel like a terrible person. What a perfect day it was yesterday and I ruined it. too much drink on the Saturday night :(

Did anyone else miss out whether it was self inflicted or not? Make me feel better :(

Commuted all week after some hill practice on the 25th (no 'rest day' since the 24th)... Long-ish ride on saturday (well not long, just more climbing than I'm used to!) so I had a rest yesterday. Got a few house chores done & typical autumn jobs - packing the BBQ away and pots from the back garden into the garage for winter...

Dug out my old Carrera Virtuoso and fully stripped it to fully service/check it over before selling next year. Even down to removing the square-taper/screw fit BB, first time I've dealt with one and how I wish I had one on my Giant! So much better than pressfit! :(

Heavy (11kg) bike but stripping it I came to realise the majority of that weight is from the forks and wheels, stripping it back to bare frame the weight is very similar to my Defy 1's (one of the ligher alu framesets). I imagine with a carbon fork with possibly seatpost/bars it wouldn't be far from the Defy's 8/9kg. I imagine the frameset is very similar to your TDF Von...? There is some sign of rust on the stem from around the spacer area, is there an easy way to remove this? I'm sure I've heard about rubbing it down with foil, I've got very light wet/dry paper which I imagine would do the same thing?

Fully intending to put it back together next weekend (ran out of daylight) and it'll be fully serviced (new cables, pads etc al). Looking online they're still selling for ~£200 which I'd be more than happy with, so fingers crossed! :D

Having given the Raceblade XL a go, on Thursday, and become fully enraged with them (though slightly less so than Road Racer 2s) they got taken off.<snip>
I've got some RaceBlade Long Mk II now... yet to fit but hopefully they'll stay put and not rub/stop me like the XLs did.
<snip>
Also farmers that chop their hawthorn hedges and leave thorns all over the road - literally like a carpet - they can FRO.

Which RB XL are they and why did you get so enraged? I'd heard bridge clearance isn't good with them...? Also quite interested in how you find the RB Long mk2's (as I've been a long time RB L mk1 convert).

Thorns everywhere around here too - the majority of farmers use a contractor to cut roadside hedges that the councils don't do - some of these guys are brilliant (the ones given the council tenders usually) and others are just a local farmer who owns a hedge trimmer!

Dunwood Hall and pretty Gothic! Was awesome though.

Oh awesome! Coincidentally a friend of the partner's family owns the place. Lovely place.

I see you're nearly at 3k mi for the year Roady. That was my goal at the beginning of the year but things seem to have petered out recently. Not surpassed 3k since 2013.

I don't know, the crap version you mentioned, I think... with the rubber flap bit that slots over the end. I think they gave decent coverage, but I probably didn't set them up properly - I did NOT use the screws to firmly attach the clips to the guard bit, so whilst riding they slipped down going over tiny bumps, presumably and were soon rubbing the tyres. By the end of my 8 and a bit mile ride they immediately stopped the front wheel as soon as you let go of setting it spinning. I did wonder why it seemed to be getting harder on that ride :D

They didn't provide great coverage at all, since they only went up to the back-facing side of the rear caliper, or the back of the forks (rear/front guards, respectively)... I want something that has almost as good coverage as the RR2, so it directs water back down at the road, rather than all over my legs... but without the utter cackness of them rubbing/falling apart/moving. Hopefully these will be just the ticket - quick release too, allegedly. I will fit them tonight on my super-clean again bike.

They seem to get mixed reviews on Evans/Wiggle, so we shall see. But you've said SKS have been great customer service wise, so I shall shout at them if I have problems. Or just buy a proper winter bike and cry. :)

I do actually hate getting filthy on rides, apparently. Needlessly, anyway.

The XLs were quite stiff, the plastic bit - so that didn't move much... I haven't had a fondle of these new long ones; apparently they are flimsy - we shall see. If all else fails I'll just fit the XLs properly and deal with whatever shortfalls they have. Some coverage is better than none, i guess.

I had a relatively quiet weekend. Decided to take Saturday off and chill, I got so bored. Gave the bike a clean, first time using Juice Lube's Dirt Juice bike cleaner. Superb stuff, super impressed, literally two drops required to clean the chain.
<snip>
Interesting commute into work this morning, very misty again. Need some windscreen wipers for my glasses! In the end I took them off, but I have bad myopia, so probably not a great idea.

Juice Lubes stuff is great, but expensive (£10 a litre). I went through 2 bottles until I hunted down industrial sorta stuff... Basically I hunted for citrus degreaser on ebay and picked up 40L of it for £30. It's maybe not as strong as the Juice Lubes stuff but it's still fantastic at shifting any kind of oil/grease. For the money I don't mind tipping it down the drain after cleaning! I did test it on various things before I got it near to my drivechain, no adverse problems so far (been using it for 3-4+ months)! ;)

I'm needing some anti-fog/moisture treatment on my lenses too, The muc-off one is always sold out so I've been looking at this one which is designed for swimming but it does say it can be used on the outside of lenses too. Anyone recommend any others?

Yeah, hadn't really noticed but passed 2800 on the weekend. My first real full year of riding (wasn't leisure riding before & not logging/strava for half of it). I should easily hit 3200 with my commuting miles and I'd like to think be near 3500 at the end of the year if I include the turbo miles. Gives me a target for next year! :D ;)

I'm not sure! I think the price is an absolute bargain, Force1, good wheels tyres and finishing kit!

It's a good setup but I think the frame is overpriced considering it's their own brand - £999. Considering some of the other stuff they're shifting - like this Pro carbon complete Ultegra bike for the same money.

The frame by itself is very much overpriced, yeah. They know they've essentially ticked all the boxes for a frame that makes it a do-it-all that is pretty much impossible to source elsewhere - hence the huge markup.

I'd probably ring them to try and get a custom build that had regular gearing personally.

That's standard PX pricing.
They dont have any frames in stock yet. As soon as they come in, expect the price to drop to £599 with "RRP £999 40% off" next to it ;)

Does anyone have a 2015/16 Carbon Synapse?
My GF is looking at one, or was yesterday. I had a go. They only had a 51cm in stock and a 54cm alu version. Weirdly the 51 felt better to me, and I ride a 54cm CAAD10. It was weird standing up, but sitting it just felt nice. Really really comfortable.

Saw a few bikes at the weekend. End of season clear out sale of 2015 models.

The Fuji Sportif 1.0 LE looks good for the price but sales guy didn't say too much about it, liekly because I was interested on the 2 Fondo models.

He said I would never notice the difference between the 2.0 and 3.0 but the 2.0 is better value for money. Ultegra components probably making the least difference, the better/lighter wheel set, brakes, crankset, seat, seat post saving around 700g and in total worth more than the $200 rice difference.

There is a 10% cashback that I could spend the next day on pedals and shoes. It in' an independent LBS but is at least local and I get free service, tire repairs and tune ups with the bike by being a member.

the other LBS tended to either only have higher end gear or lower end gear, or I didn't like their attitude, but there are several more to try.

Sounds like they were these, or these. My Raceblade Long v1's had a flap over the end that looks exactly the same as those linked but the guards themselves are clipped into the brake bridge mounts (same as you'll find with the v2's).

You will find the RB Longs v2 have better coverage, although there will still be a 'gap' at the caliper bridges (which is why these guards fit frames like mine with really tight clearances). I've not found this to be a problem, my brakes get filthy but none of the spray hits me... Coverage there is similar to the RR2's. The part of the RR2's next to the seatstay I'm actually going to fix to my RB Long guard to try and keep some of the winter filth from my drivechain...

They seem to get mixed reviews on Evans/Wiggle, so we shall see. But you've said SKS have been great customer service wise, so I shall shout at them if I have problems. Or just buy a proper winter bike and cry. :)

I've rapidly come to a similar conclusion - for proper guard clearances for winter riding options (wider tyres) then a 'road bike' is never going to be the ideal option. Whatever we do will never give us the full protection we would get from a dedicated 'winter' bike (usually a CX frame) with full guards.

SKS have been fantastic to deal with, I neglected to email them when I first had my problem, I assumed they would be similar to wiggle - a used product, several month old they wouldn't want to know about. But they have been fantastic! I've been totally overwhelmed by how quick & helpful! My replacement rear guard and parts arrived today. :)

The frame by itself is very much overpriced, yeah. They know they've essentially ticked all the boxes for a frame that makes it a do-it-all that is pretty much impossible to source elsewhere - hence the huge markup.

Agreed, which makes your chinese one even more appealing! ;)

I like the gearing... One chainring = less maintenance & less chain rub = more chain life through the winter?

That's standard PX pricing.

Rude! But I guess typical marketing... Makes the built bike seem like a complete bargain in comparison!

My GF is looking at one, or was yesterday.

Was suggested I looked at one for my mrs who is after a road bike... Not done anything about it as none of the LBS seem to specialise in Cannondales or CX...! I'm trying to steer her towards a traded in Giant from my favourite shop! ;)

Yep, 2015 model here.

How've you found it? I forget what kinda rides you do, or if you had anything beforehand :) I know I was only on it for a few minutes but it felt like I could ride it all day quite comfortably.

Pretty good so far. I should add though that everybody's body are different though. I suspect it's not a perfect fit for me, so might be better suited to you. I have a very short torso, but long legs. I've had to fit quite a short stem.
It's an endurance style bike though, which is probably why you find it comfortable. It does come with a large number of spacers as well.
I still think there could be a different bike that's more comfortable for my geometry, but the current bike is a much better fit than my previous bike (Planet X Pro Carbon 49cm). I also have a Cannondale CAADX 2014 (56cm)

Your welcome to follow me on Strava, if you want to check out some of my rides. I've done about 500 miles on the Synapse, I've had the bike just over a month.
https://www.strava.com/athletes/3155242

New bike is the Cannondale Synapse Di2 Disc 2015 (56cm) model. Let me know if you have anymore specific questions

I take it the CAADX is aluminium flavoured, and possibly has bigger (wider) tyres on it?
I suppose I'd like to know how good it it (the carbon synapse) at absorbing road bumpage, compared to say the PX Pro Carbon... that was one she was looking at, or the newer RT80... are they significantly different in quality, would you say? Or is that a silly question given how small the PX seems to have been for you?

I'm the opposite - ET-length legs, plus I guess a normal/longer torso/arms.
