I put together a decent flat 10 mile segment near me. I'm yet to break half an hour on it, though... It's right round the corner from physichull as well, and I reckon he could put in a decent time on there.

Oh aye? Where's that?

I'm up for a festive 10m TT. Might be back in East Yorks over xmas, where its pan flat.

Start on Kenyon Lane, around about the turning for Delamere Avenue. If you're coming from the lights by the pub you'll hit the start ok. Head all the way to Bents - over the bridges, past Orica, left at the roundabout by the library in Culcheth, past the curry place, past the high school, past the Raven and the pub with Stephenson's Rocket on the sign - then turn at the new roundabout at Bents and head back the same way. The only slightly sketchy bits are the roundabout just after the high school on the outward leg, where you might have to brake if someone is coming from the Glazebrook turning, and then turning right in a hurry at the roundabout in Culcheth on the return leg, but you've got good lines of sight so it's doable.

Can't you guys find something with less chances of pedestrians attempting to cross? What's the A6 to Stockport like?

Something like this (local 10 mile TT ridden on tuesdays).

Clusterer can be a good way to find them.

Really not worth £35. The guy I bought my second hand cycle ops trainer from threw one in FOC and I'd not pay more than a fiver for one TBH.

Yeah I know, just struggling to find one cheaply! Guess I should look at S/H... Really need to get it ordered so it arrives this week before I'm off over Christmas.

Nah, it's fine pedestrian wise. A couple of crossings but so long as you've got your eyes open - recommended when cycling - it's no problem. Besides, it's not intended as a proper competitive TT stage, more just something nearby that I can rattle off without too much hassle. Believe me, if there were a more convenient road to use within 20 miles of me I'd probably know about it by now!

I actually laughed out loud when I read this. The A6 is horrendous  Not something you'd know unless you were a local though :)

Was purely a guess as I figured most of the traffic would use the A57/A34! :p

Going out to Bury on the A56 seems popular according to Clusterer.

Just been looking at my ride again on saturday, quite disappointed with it now as I'd taken an easy week mile wise (& bike wise) with only 57 miles ridden total. I know the winds were brutal, but I did a further solo ride with more climbing the weekend before (after a longer week of riding, 85 miles) with a similar average. This isn't likely fatigue - as I felt good all the way around, was it purely the bad winds/weather?

Taking that ride as a snapshot what do you guys think I should focus my turbo training on - base miles/sweetspot or more interval/power work?

I'm going to try and get into a habit of doing a 30min fasted ride on sunday mornings and then follow it up later in the afternoon with something more focussed. Regardless of what I do on saturdays (ride/no-ride) I should still have some volume in my training. Saturday tends to be the day I either group ride or have other things planned with sundays usually kept pretty free/open as 'home' days (my other half works most saturdays & mon-fri). I've slipped backwards in volume now I'm not riding after work...!

I like the quote about "racing sets your CAT level, not anything else".

Another good quote would be "just because you've seen an FTP figure that is higher than yours you shouldn't cry about it".

As always, figures posted online should be taken with buckets of salt as you never know how accurate they are but every time someone posts something that isn't super low on here (and other forums to be fair) a few people come out of the woodwork and get prissy about it.
