Does anyone else get a lot of dry skin around and underneath their eyes from sweating? What do you do about it? I'm looking borderline leprosy at the moment.

nope I don't sweat through my eyes? ;) but seriously, thinking about it.. I hardly if ever break any sweat on my commute, then again it is quite short.. ! and I can't ever recall having my underneath my eyes being dry, they do feel a little itchy but a quick wash with water sorts it out!

Not a file upload you can just throw your huge .AVI's at? :D

How have you found the footage comparison to the VIRB? Looking at it is clearer than mine in the daytime but I am recording on eco (720p). The VIRB looks better in low light...?

nope ;) :D sadly.. :D

I'd say they're very similar! go pro IMO looks a tiny bit better in low light but this the session 4 which is meant to be "meh" compared to go pro black for example! I find the audio 10x better, like literally if I mumble anything, you can hear it nice and clear.. ! battery life is the only - with go pro, lasts up to 1:20ish before it needs charging.. not that my commute is any longer and the plan was to use it for sole purpose of "commuting/videos from commute"

Yeah any cropping, editing etc. (which could include digital compression I guess?) counts as a break in the chain of evidence. As you say, it is out of date in a time of 4k cameras grabbing gigabytes of data over very short periods of time.

aha, that makes more sense.. weird tho! because lets be honest, 1080px60fps is way better than many cctvs that they have around the city which probablt record at 360p if that with little to no night mode support.

on a different note, I need new shades.. something for £30ish quid, something that wont fog up is my main requirement!

I generally get dryer skin during the winter months, so I always have some moisturiser in my locker for after my shower.

I don't know if its just me, but I'm seeing a lot more commuter cyclists out and about. I guess its the Near Years Resolutions bump. I usually head out at exactly the same time each day and I usually encounter one or two other "regulars" on my journey and they are always coming the other way as I pass them at the same point each day (we all exchange respectful nods). But lately I have overtaken two or three cyclists each way. Very rare.

I keep a moisturiser in my locker. Maybe I just need something a bit richer.

I've only ridden in once this week but I did notice one or two people who looked like they were new to it. There aren't actually that many cyclists over this way so it won't clog up my route much :p

Our bike shed is definitely fuller than it was a couple of months ago. I'm sure normal service will resume in February/March until the sun brings the rest back out.

Edit: did some brief lunchtime stalking of Asprilla across various channels and I can't track him down. Very odd. Hope everything is OK.

Pretty much the same on my route in but I guess as I work 8-4 I probably see a smaller percentage of commuters compared to some.

My legs are absolutely knackered today. Really can't put any power through them. Possibly it's the combination of a ridiculous kcal deficit, being unfit and me no longer being used to doing more than 0.1 miles per day or something...

I get some, usually on my cheekbones and below, my skin can even hurt (and goes bright red - like Noddy!) from the windchill this time of year so I cover up as much as possible. Cycling cap, eye wear & a 'neck gaiter/buff' pulled up under my nose and over my ears so also covers much of my cheeks.

I put some moisturiser over my whole face after shaving in the morning (after a shower) and that seems to stop it getting too bad. Nivea or a brand called 'Bulldog' I've found best for cheapness/ease/availaibility. I looked into outdoor cremes for protecting my skin but they were expensive so thought I'd try normal moisturiser first.

I tried some Privateers while looking for mine. Seemed very nice but I really needed a half size to fit well (I have weird feet, must have tried about 15-20 cycling shoes...). With Wiggle I'd just order a few sizes and send the rest back :)

See my feet are almost a perfect 42, I've been able to squeeze in 41's and worn 43's before now with thick socks so don't think I need a half size. Treble II's ordered! :)

That short a battery life would annoy me, even with my short commute! You must need to charge it after every commute?! I bought an extra battery and the standalone charger for my VIRB, works great & charges 2 or 3 times quicker (less than 2 hours) than plugging the VIRB in to USB. The audio on the VIRB is pretty terrible, mine is useless and only has the vibration/braking/pothole noises, can't even hear vehicles on it most of the time...!

I'm still rocking my DHB triple lenses for commuting with, also have some of the chinese ladarlock's which are a similar price from aliexpress with 3 lenses. I find both comfortable but the lenses with my DHB's are more scratched so keep them for commuting. I'm using the Muck-off anti-fog and it works well, do have to apply it every 1.5-2 weeks though. Guy at my LBS who races XC swears by a 'finger dab' of some washing up liquid in a 'cap' of water before every race, certainly seems cheaper than the muck off! ;)

Seems to be a few more, I'd normally see 4-6 on my commutes and now it's more 8-10. Had noticed the increase even last year as traffic around the city has got more congested over the last 12 months. Whenever I drive my commute now (morning or night) it's never quicker than taking the bike, I used to get to work in 10 mins in the morning, it's now closer to 20. Journey home was always 30 mins, sometimes up to an hour, now it's more 45mins minimum. Bike is 15-20 mins each way depending on traffic, weathers & lights.

Awesome bike bell review!

Anyone with 3/8" torque wrench recommendations without spending a small fortune? I have a smaller Xtools 1/4" which only goes up to 24NM and I ideally need a bigger one that'll do bigger stuff like crank arms (think I saw 40Nm on something on my old ride?!). Don't want to spend more than £50/60. I'm taking advantage of the CRC sale (£10 off when you spend £75) to pickup some tools & spares...

Why be in a kcal deficit while trying to shake your illness and regain some form? Shouldn't you need more energy than normal to regain fitness?

Yeah, think it was mentioned before that he was on road.cc or such but hadn't been seen there recently either. Worrying & same, hope all is ok! Don't have his real name to facebook stalk. I Trust'd from here last time it came up and didn't hear anything back. :(

Having problems with my HRM again. This is the third strap I've used in the past 18 months.
2 Garmin premium ones & a polar one.

They work fine for a few weeks, then just don't connect.
When they do, I get random reading of either 0 or 72 bpm.

Any recommendations for a new one, or do you think it maybe a problem with the Garmin itself?

Overtook a couple, got overtaken by some super skinny guy!

There's a super skinny guy who occasionally overtakes me on my journey home. He has an unbranded bike and doesn't wear a helmet, just a cycling cap and he always wears ninja black. Without fail he passes me every time, often doing speeds around 40 km/h! He's well quick.

Everyone should own a torque wrench for the smaller things like seat clamps and the like, but when it gets to things like 40nm for cranks and cassette lockrings, it's basically as tight as you can get it. You don't need a torque wrench for that imo. 40nm is just "a butt load".

Clean? What's that! This time of year I generally wear bibshorts commuting (change them every 2 days, unless minging after 1), they're the shorts I wear year-round so have 4 pairs, over them I wear padless bib-tights which I generally only change once a week. So my outer layer (which gets filthy this time of year) doesn't get that smelly/sweaty (no pad) and dries out quickly. They're out of stock now on Wiggle but were on a sale for £29 which was an absolute steal!
([/URL])

Bib shorts only use one set per day. Got 4/5 pairs that I go through. Then combined with leg warmers here. Just not got cold enough down this way to warrant anything more, and my legs are usually fine, its my hands feet and arms that feel the chill.

to be honest, it recharges in less than an hour I found! off the pc/laptop usb port :) so very quick! today for example it recharged between me getting out of bed, plugging it in, showering and dressing up/eating a little!

so yeah, for my use, its fine! for others it might be a little too short!

Thanks! The annoying thing is I was really looking forward to using these 4 days before work and the weather is amazing today. Dropped it off at the bike shop anyway and I'll hear back next week. They had a brief look and are hoping it's just the protector damaged though it is quite a deep cut into it.

Apparently bike is ready. They said they've just straightened the hanger, gave the wheel a tweak to true it and rewrapped the bar tape (had come apart already) plus changed the chain. Apparently the chainstay protector has done it's job and no damage to frame but they didn't seem to mention anything about changing the protector. £63 for parts and labour (presumably the only part was the chain).

With any luck I'll give cycling a go at the weekend. I still ache a little and can't hold super weights with my right arm but I'll see how it goes!
