One of my many orders is here :D It's not the one I expected it to be, it's the ASV Roubaix jersey and some gloves. Shorts arriving later then! Probably returning 75% of it, as it's bits of various sizes.

As for the Mango discussion above: I'm interested by this. Road.cc has a review of the R and the AR, and they basically concluded that the AR is the same as the R, but more capable, and therefore better. I'm interested in how the brake discussion goes though. Sadly, all the AR frames seem to be out of stock :(

I'll leave that to the others as have no experience with them...

So guys, what are BB5/BB7 like, say compared to HyRd's or such?

Obviously my hydraulic RD685 are going to be better brakes. Are there any other 'hidden' costs if swapping BB5/7's to another cable disc set?

I'm betting the change to hydraulic would involve a change/cost of housing/outers also?

Edit: to be honest they sell the AR frameset for £250 (Large not in stock) which could be a better option to build up. Certainly loads cheaper than the Kinensis 4S frameset I was looking at for £750! Build would come in around £800 (£150 cheaper) but would also need to factor in stem/bars/steatpost/saddle too.

BB7s are probably the best of the purely cable discs

Actually I'd put the TRP Spyres above them. Even better are the HY/RDs.

There are no hidden costs swapping between different cable actuated disc brakes though you may need an adaptor for the mount.

Point-AR Sora: £550
Shimano RS685 shifter/Brake set: £350
Sell BB5 disc groupset: -£170?
Buy 105 5800 groupset: £280
Sell 5800 Shifters+brakes: :-£100?
Buy 160mm rotor discs (think they're centrelock?): £20

= ~£950 for hydraulic 11-speed 105

They're selling it 10-speed (5700) with cable discs (BB7) for £750.

£200 upgrade for hydraulic, plus £150 for discs over the R. Basically the cost of the RS685 set :)

There's no way you'd get £170 for a BB5 second hand groupset unfortunately.

Anyone follow any cycle vloggers? Looking to follow some more.

I've discovered Cycling Maven from Mebourne, excellent watching, melbourne cyclist, lots of racing and general riding and some life stuff.

I was very tempted by a Point R Lethal, they look awesome.

http://www.mangobikes.co.uk/components/framesets/point-ar-frameset9

The Large is only in stock in White or Grey
The Medium is out of stock in Orange, the others are in stock.

I love the Green! :D

Shame but you're correct, I've seen barely worn 5800's go for less S/H :o

So even switching from cabled to hydraulic doesn't involve a change of outers? Good to know :)

You'll have to replace your cables with hoses so you'll definitely change your outers.

Unless you mean the HY/RDs, which still use cables?

Had a man fail last night trying to get some brake pads replaced on my CAAD12 - just could not get the little screw out of my (rubbish) Tektro shoes to replace. That made my mind up - am going to replace the lost with 105 :)

Almost had a horrible crash last night - someone turned into a junction I was approaching at far too much speed and just ended up using my lane for a bit. If I'd been there 5 sceonds earlier I would have been tasting windshield. I also saw someone riding with their helmet on backwards. Fun day!

Trying to psych myself up for tonights turbo session - 16 weeks until Everesting and I must get my FTP up!

Got a load of shorts to try on tonight :D Going to be fun!

I picked up some Assos T.tiburu S7's to try on for fun mainly. But holy crap, the packaging alone is lovely. I don't want to try them on now!

Unless he is talking about the gears?

I may well have been talking about shoe laces for all the sense I've made lol :p

I initially was talking about changing an AR to hydraulic from cable, as an already setup bike it would then need the outers changing.

I was then talking about the bare frameset, which wouldn't come with any outers, obviously ordering the RS685 set it will come with the correct outers for hydraulic braking and cable gearing. With the cable/hydraulic outers I imagine they are the same size/similar so the mounting points on the frame wouldn't need modification? :)

Shimano hoses are slightly wider than most cable outers. They'll probably fit fine assuming that the bike doesn't require any breaks in the brake line outer (I'm not sure any disc bikes do this anyhow?) - but it may be a bit snug in places.

Looking at the built AR the brake cables are 'unbroken' (unlike a cabled rim brake) and just 'cable tied' to mount points on the frame (my non-technical way of describing it!). The base frameset looks to already have these 'ties' in place so I imagine they're not a one use 'cable tie' in the sense I mean, but some kind of reusable mounting mechanism which clips onto the hydraulic hose/cable outer which doesn't require a break in it. Makes sense with a possibly pressurised hose, the last thing you'd want is breaks/weakness in the system.

Also explains why no/few disc frames have internal brake cable routing ;)

This conversation has worried me somewhat! Are you lot pulling my leg? Of course there are no breaks in the hose, it's not a car :P. They are circlips that hold the cables in place, and usually the reason why few disc frames don't have internal routing. Although this may be because of the difficulty in threading a very stiff cable hose through any sort of bend.

No brakes in the hose? You mean breaks? :p

The reason I brought it up as a possibility was not with the idea of a break in the hose but in terms of frame that is made with cable discs in mind possibly having a break in it. It would suck if so but I've got a vague memory of an old cable disc frame of mine having such a thing.

Of course, I could easily have imagined that and hence sent Roady down completely the wrong..er...road :)
