Duno how anyone can struggle with Protein intake, when you add it all up I easily get over 100g per day with a diet you would not call protein rich. (Fish and Salad for lunch, meat and that for dinner, but all moderately small portions when on a cut)

My problem is I don't eat enough meat for dinner or lunch. It's easy enough to remedy: I just have to do it. Working late for the past few weeks hasn't helped with this. Deadlines are a pain.

but most riding in the UK benefits from being powerful on the flat or up punchy, short climbs.:(
Can only agree with this, being a heavier rider I initially thought I'd need to lose 20kg (from around 90kg) to become a better climber but for the majority of UK climbs (less than a mile @ 7/8% or half a mile @ 10%) you just need technique and power (with a good combination of active recovery as hardly anything in the UK is gradual)! Lower weight helps (of course) but not without an equal boost in power and technique. Conditioning yourself to suffer and staying in those high HR zones is what's working for me so far...

I heard some horror stories about people consuming loads of protein and ending up with kidney stones. Fun.

In before I get beaten to death with barbells by the gym crowd.
I heard to eat kidney stones, because gym. Gainz yo!

Once it gets to probably April, I'm going to try commuting to work at least 2 days a week... possibly 3, being Tues/Wed/Thurs when I drive in on a monday/friday with spare clothes etc to leave at work.
I know I don't work well on an empty stomach, but my main goal other than getting to work is to lose weight/fat.
You're over thinking it Jono! Just get riding and balance your diet, you don't need to go on a big diet change 'to lose weight' for cycling. You just need to get regularly cycling and the weight loss will sort itself! Eat to fuel your riding, not eat a rabbit diet for weight loss then struggle with riding! It's much more fun to enjoy your riding, the more you do the more the weight will take care of itself! :D

I dare not list mine as I don't count it currently. Like to think I eat a fairly balanced diet so will make a log of it at some point for the nutrition ninjas to take a look at. I know I can cut down on some things but enjoy food (& life!) too much! ;) :p :)

EDIT: Cider & pizza night later! Woohoo! Also another +1 for snacking on nuts. Also dried fruit! I/we probably spend around £10 a week on dried fruit & nuts for snacks. It previously was biscuits, chocolate & crisps!

I'm going to take a look at the weather for tomorrow and plan a nice route. Either a loop or up into the Chiltern.

Also going to keep note of my food for a few weeks. Theb you can pick my diet to pieces.

Wow. That's a lot. But much healthier than crisps and chocolate! I'll get on that :D

I will be honest here, and say no. Not a proper bike fit. We did a bit of measuring when I picked up my Tarmac, but that was it. I probably need shorter cranks, as I have 170 cranks whilst 165 might be better for me.

I had mine done at Stows in Slough when I picked up my new bike. Not far from you - might be worth enquiring with them. It was quite comprehensive - about an hour overall.

I'll look into that! Thanks. They have a shop in Windsor too which is probably easier to get to.

That one has now closed.. I almost made the same mistake :) They merged the two shops together last year I think. There is parking just for the store behind it though if driving. (just take the passage beside the front of the shop to get to it).

Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub from a folding bike I'm working on. It's pretty amazingly simple, the cross shaped thing is the clutch and the indicator pin just pulls it into/away from the planetary gears. Here it is cleaned and ready to put back together. This is going to take a lot of grease :o

Here's a vid of someone taking one apart if you're interested:

Does anyone around here live around north Devon? Heading down there for a few days around Easter and will be doing some riding so would be good to get some ideas for rides
