Road Cycling

I went to Richmond Park this morning at dawn and it was filled with freezing fog! I actually had ice forming on my body and bike. That, combined with the poor visibility, risk of deer collisions and potential for ice patches made it not the most enjoyable ride.:(

That's always my worry riding there at night. It's nice to have some relatively clear roads but high risk of deer collision!

Eugh, had another dizzy spell this morning after cold hands hit, luckily not as bad as last time. Think I need to invest in some better gloves, so if anyone sees any deep winter type ones let me know.

Just back from my first ride in 5 months. (Had to abort one a couple of weeks ago due to gear problems).

Felt like I did last year when I rode a bike for the first time in about 20 years.

Rapha Deep Winter with merino liners or Castelli Estremo. Only gloves that come close to working for my permanently cold fingers. Even then, they didn't help enough this morning.

Thought i better check first but am i allowed to link to my ebay advert for my flip paint Boardman to get you guys input on here?

high risk of deer collision!
Is it really that bad there?! What if you had a big 1000 lumen front light, wouldn't it be enough to scare them away? Another option is some spokeys. :D

Think it's generally frowned upon and now FT is a Don he can't let anything slip. Don't mind if you trust it me if you're after an opinion on how the listing looks as you're not technically selling it to me (and I don't want it!). :D
Urgh. Ordered two Virb batteries from Evans but they only sent me the one :/
Meh, kick up a fuss and if they send you 2 more for free send me one? ;)
I have the original VIRB one, an official garmin replacement and a cheap ebay knockoff one. The knockoff won't charge in the VIRB but does charge in my standalone charger (a great investment!). It takes longer to charge and I'm sure it drops off quicker even though the mAh is listed as the same. For the £11 it cost I shouldn't have bothered...!

They aren't really that bad but still got to be wary as I'm sure a cyclist would come off worse! They seem quite savvy but occasionally do run past. Tbh what's worse is the cars just randomly piling on the brakes to stop and look at them. It's not a bloody safari park :D

Ha. Doubt they'll be that generous but we'll see.

I don't actually have a standalone charger, will have to see how much they are. I was only buying them as original battery may eventually wear and it would be useful for longer than 3 hour bike rides but I would have to charge both beforehand in the camera itself.

I wouldn't want to ride into a deer. Red deer can weigh north of 100Kg. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine that you'd both end up dead.

Normally, you can see a herd of deer by the side of the road from a distance that looks like it wants to cross.

At night with a normal bike light or in dense fog, visibility is reduced to the point where they could just jump out on you as you descend a hill at 30mph!

Standalone is well worth it, charges tons faster than the VIRB (around 2-3h? My VIRB used to sometimes take longer than 4!)!

I don't think they're fully blown Red Deer running around RP?! Although I could be wrong... The only deer we get around here are the little munkjac things not much bigger than a cat! :o

But they're intelligent and will jump out of the way?! I'd be more worried about pedestrians! ;)
People post their adverts in motors from time to time asking for input and those thread are allowed.
Yeah, but they pay road tax ;)

Not sure what kind of deer are there, but there are definitely big ones!

Feeling a bit down about my current weight loss. Really doesn't feel like it's going well. On the plus side, if the weather holds the weekend will be lovely, if a bit chilly until it warms up!

I was walking the dog the other night and shone the torch across the field. Turns out dear eye glow green when they reflect the light! spooky!

I've almost hit a pedestrian while descending before... they were carrying two cups of coffee and a car driver stopped to let them across a speed bump (which isn't a zebra crossing and has for some reason only "LOOK RIGHT" written on the ground). If I remember correctly I actually shouted "Look Right" as I didn't have enough time to stop.
