I was really tempted by the new Genesis Flyer. Full guards too and a flip flop wheel. Great bike.

Looks lovely, but even though it's steel, 9.5kg for something that doesn't have a cassette, double chainring and mechs is just outrageous imo. I guess a lot of the weight is in the wheels, but I reckon you could easily build a lighter singlespeed setup for the same price. That, and 17mm rims can suck it.

It's a pity they don't sell the frameset on it's own.

Was just browsing Strava, looking at a mates ride from today. Lucky git is in Lanzarote for a week. Noticed he had 20mph up a hlll so checked the segment and look who I see is in the Top Ten! Our very own - - - - Mr Reilly

Haha!

The wind in Lanzarote is so strong you can get blown uphill by a tailwind.:D

I've got a random KOM in Lanzarote that was totally wind assisted.

The cost issue is something that didn't even cross my mind. My wife does equestrian endurance up to 160km in a day and that's all open road events, although they obviously do as little road work as possible. The cost to enter one of those is a good bit more than the costs mentioned here. I thought this was cheap in comparison :p

Horses.... Don't get me started. Woman face is Scottish dressage champ, doesn't even have her own horse just now but I did think cycling was expensive till I seen all that horsey carry on!

Regards sportives, running is the same. All of those massive Bupa and mass participation events in running are just as bad and crazy money for the masses. I ran 4 of those big time Bupa things when I was running but never paid a penny for any of them as was all selections.... And sportive wise, not going to lie the 2 I have done was under someone elses name and number (put me in jail). I have my own entry for Loch Ness this year though, I am a good boy.

Just trying on a new suit (online order) and it's fair to say that while my waist is sufficiently smaller than my chest to pull off a tailored fit jacket, my bum and thighs do a good job filling out even regular fit trousers... Pretty tight around the top of my legs. #cyclistproblems

Ultegra 6800 BB 68mm English thread
Ultegra 6800 11 speed chain
105 6800 rear mech GS
105 5800 double 11 speed front mech

Am I missing anything?

Nah, you're just fat! :p

10" difference between my chest and waist, always end up having to go for slim/tailored/whatever is thinnest in the body in a M or L to get enough length for my height.

Gave Zwift a good go today since I fixed the laptop, no overheating now! Ordered more memory earlier this week but I don't think it really needs it.

I do need to cut out my floor matting in the garage though, nice and soft underfoot, but the kickr & front tyre ends up sinking into it and then the bike rocks side to side a little bit or lifts one of the feet when cranking out the saddle. Ill just cut some holes & slots in the matting so it can sit down nicely.

I did notice that some people have got to be up to something dodgy! I did a 2:01 up the KOM on there which was a few seconds quicker than everyone else, but then I got knocked off by a second or two later on in my ride. Just before I logged off, someone takes 30 seconds off it! Uploaded to Strava and the KOM is 1 minute.... Someones telling porkies about their weight I think so that they fly up the climb.

Zwift is a load of **** when it comes to the times/jerseys and people definitely do cheat. I think you can just put your weight at 50kg and fire up the KOM with a lightweight booster @ 350w and your time would obviously be very low, but why lie to yourself for a computer game? People are stupid.

I was 4th on the orange jersey lap one last night doing my session, didn't even notice until I finished 3/4 away around a lap, couldn't give a toss :p

Have you checked that the pull of the new front mech is the same as the old? Also, band vs braze.

New cable inners/outers if you've not already included them.

Ultegra chain vs 105 chain.... if the 105 is much cheaper just get that. Same for cassette to be honest.

Is your rear mech Ultegra or 105 (6800 vs 5800)?

Upgraded to Strava premium to get the 2 months free Zwift, I did nearly an hour and it went a lot quicker than an hour of rollers would!

Shimano chains are a pain in the bum with their stupid joining pins. KMC much easier to use

I don't mind it. I think when you get into it, you can't help but push on a little more.

tired legs this morning. Had total body session last night, with many lunges, squats and DLs. My legs weren't up for much out there. Saying that, think I'm going on a ride at lunch. It's rest day after all.

I do mean to get round to trying Zwift as it looks like a lot of fun (for indoor training :p). The power and speed numbers you see come off it are hilarious at times though.

Given I'm saving £100 a month by not paying for a train ticket I can pretty much come up with any numbers and it works :D
Pinarello Dogma F8 would pay for itself in under 6 years... ;)

I'm seeing this again as I've started to trim up...
A pair of work trousers I stupidly bought as 'slim fit' (with a 34" waist) are now huge on me yet ride up on my thighs they're that tight... Tight enough they're going to tear the next time I have to dive under a desk... I've had to dig out my 'emergency' pair, a regular fit 36" waist and I now look like I'm an extra in an 80's keep fit video... Need to go shopping!

Think you got the rear mech wrong, you'll want 5800 not 6800? :)

FT is right about cassettes - no point spending extra on 6800, also as this is a wide one you'll need a long drop/throw rear mech for it.

Have you researched the BB to confirm 68mm (english threaded) is correct/compatible with your frame? 5800 cranks are HTII which is usually press fit, but there are threaded BB's available.

I've read this before somewhere, but the type of FD (braze or band on) can determine the shell you have to use with a pressfit BB, I'm unsure if this also applies to a threaded BB... This fitting guide/website mentions it on point 3.

Get a trainer mat? Probably less hassle than cutting your floor matting (for it to then be wrong in future?!). A front wheel riser too... Turbo 'accessories' are crazy prices unless you grab things in deals/sales.

I did find a trainer mat for £25 from PX but no longer listed... You have to be a bit 'brand blind' if you want to save money! ;)

I was running a Kurt Kinetic trainer with a Tacx riser on a SportCrafters mat for a while!:D

Agreed the 'pins' on Shimano are a pain... KMC chains are made of cheese and I found SRAM chains last me much longer. Although last time I did get a Shimano CN-HG701 and it's been ok... Has done nearly 500 miles so can't comment on how long it's going to last, yet!

Zwift freeride is fun, I use it when short on time/recovery but it's no substitute to following a proper session (which there are plenty of in Zwift). The power levels on there can be laughable (see people pushing out 9w/kg lols) but equally with it setup correctly they give riders without PM's a way to see what 'riding with power' is like (like TR) :)

Zwift is just another 'distraction' when it comes to turbo work. For that alone it is worth it! :D

Don't need a wheel riser with a Kickr!

I just cut the floor matt as it was cheap and I can insert the pieces back into it if needed.

I use a bath matt under the bike for the sweat...

I think I need a cheap bike for the Kickr. I don't fancy fitting my bike to the turbo everytime I want to do a TrainerRoad session over the summer. This is a valid reason to start n+1 right?
