So i bought my bike to work to go for a ride this afternoon, first time since last thursday and it's done nothing but rain all day :(. Hope it's better tomorrow. My long bib short set hasn't arrived yet either and it's a bit chilly. I want to test my new gopro wrist mount and bluetooth headphones too.

I really hope we don't end up with something similar to the earlier crotch cam footage

Got my Virb mounted with the handlebar mount like so:

I actually kinda like the shifters and little bit of the wheel in view.. do need to exclude the cable though!

Handlebar mounts are great and ideally I'd have my main camera there. I definitely want a helmet mount for commuting though to show things like me checking behind me before I pull out/turn/etc.

popped the second spoke in my rear wheel in 6 months, so time for a full rebuild

ordered spokes from the cycle clinic and they were here in less than 24 hours. Excellent price at £18 for 32 Sapim race as well

Chipping in on the single speed front...
If its just commuting, surely you only need a front brake? in which case, you can just get some disc compatible forks for any frame? Or run a combo of front disc and back caliper?

Looks good! I got paranoid of my VIRB being on the mount 'upside down' after it came unclipped/didn't fully clip in once. I used an old camera wrist strap loopy thing and attached it to the tag at the end of the VIRB, then before I mount the VIRB I just loop it over the mount before clipping the VIRB into the holder. The VIRB has fallen off since and got 'saved' by it! :D

A good idea but I'm fairly sure that the VIRB/Gopro are too big for this as you've kinda found with your nodding... They're a bit obvious 'up there' too, whereas mounted outfront they're less obvious and less likely to get targetted. Many of the footage you see of angry^van/peugeot^man they target the camera on the riders head.

Ideally as cyclists we need a camera small and light enough to helmet mount, even better if it somehow fitted into helmet vents. To be honest I'm shocked to not see a helmet on the market with front and rear cameras integrated into it, internal wiring and integrated (replaceable) battery pack, possibly even with some kinda visibility lighting too. The ones that pop up on kickstarter are all total overkill. We don't need indicators. We don't need visors. We need rugged, cheap and either multiple battery or easy charging options.

Not sure that'd look retro, yuppie and cool enough for the SS crowd...

I'd much prefer a smaller camera for my helmet but the ones worth getting seem pretty expensive. I don't mind too much it being obvious that I'm wearing a camera, though I agree that the thing is pretty heavy up there.

At the moment I'm going to stick out having the Virb on my helmet but I'll also be ordering a combined Virb/Edge out front mount for leisure riding. If I find a cheap and small/light helmet cam I may switch out to that in the future.

Second ride seemed to go more successfully - Looks like the full video recorded this time. 41 minutes is about 2.5GB though :/ I may need to swap out from the 32GB card to a 64GB.

I'll upload the ride to YouTube shortly so you can enjoy more of my nodding...and swearing at motorists. After that I'll be done with video spam :)

edit: Nodding worse and my adjustment to the angle is pretty terrible. It's an awesome video :|

depends! I was thinking about getting a carbon fork with disk brake but rear is needed too especially in those emergency breaking situations or when cornering at higher speed in say, wet or loose gravel :o

yeah I was looking for a helmet camera and imo contour roam 2 is the best bang for buck for a slim/light camera :o

Taken the SS for a couple of short spins, it's a lot of fun but I really don't like the narrow hipster flat bars! Anyway went for a run and got a random email from Strava that I had lost a KOM, had a look and kind of surprised I still have quite a few KOM's going unchallenged since 2012/2013 my favourite being :):

The other surprising thing is, the last time I was a lycra 'cyclist' was 2 years ago. I still talk about cycling like I'm a cyclist and its always in the front of my mind, "tomorrow" I'll start cycling again "tomorrow" :p but it feels like yesterday since I was on the R5. Time flies :o

Not going to bother embedding it as it's not that interesting but the second video at least recorded in full:

I won't bother uploading any more unless it's as part of a crime report or something.

That counts as slim? I'd have thought something like the Mobius Action Camera would be better for helmet mounting.

Once you add the waterproof case the Mobius becomes somewhat larger so the size difference isn't as drastic as you might initially think.

The Mobius is a good camera for helmet mounting and recording commutes but the Contour Roam is more of a do-it-all.

Just had one last ride before it gets too dark to go after work.

Got one hell of a sting from some little ******!! Two big limps on my chest. I couldn't stop and throw all my layers on the road fast enough! Still hurts now.
