Gales and rain with up to 60mph gusts. I'm feeling absolutely terrible though so definitely not commuting by bike tomorrow unfortunately. The theme pretty much continues, warm but wet and windy!

Yeah, the wind looks outrageous this week. I'll see how I go tomorrow... If I die I'll not ride in for the rest of the week.

It was allegedly 8 degrees this morning, according to my car. I went out in my summer (since I don't have any winter ones) bib shorts, a base layer tshirt thing, short sleeved jersey with arm and knee warmers, oh and some fingerless mitt things. That is my winter cycling kit. I do own a jacket, an Altura night vision one, but it seems to be completely terrible. It claimed to be breathable and waterproof. It is neither. I just boil in the thing and sweat profusely and end up wetter on the inside than the outside if it's raining.

I loved it - We got about 30 mins or so into our ride and the rain that was due at 11 arrived at about 9:30. Yay. Absolutely soaked, but never cold except I did cool down quite fast when I stopped to wait for others to catch up at West Tanfield, but I loved every minute of it, just about.
It was only about 25 miles - did plan on 50 originally but no one else did that route, I think, and in the conditions 25 was about right, plus we got home in time for remembrance day remembering.

I got a load of PRs on it, too... which was surprising as I wasn't really trying that hard...

compared to the first time I tried this route after I'd just got back on my bike after a few years of doing basically nothing
https://www.strava.com/activities/378130316 and that was in summer when it was dry.

I've clearly got fitter :) Good stuff this cycling lark :D

Phrasing.

I got a bit damp. Shorts + my DHB top did the job of keeping me mostly dry or in a state where I could dry off quickly at least. It wasn't a fun ride though.

Loooool we've had a software update at work and it clearly didn't work, so I can't get into the key big of software that I need. I'm being trolled.

Just get ones that have a zip at the back - you can get your feet in otherwise but they're a whole lot easier with a zip!

And your feet will get wet, but hopefully not cold. I just bought some sealskinz socks, which claim to be waterproof. We shall see. I know that my overshoes are not, given that they have big holes in the bottom for the cleat/heel... and are just neoprene - but I didn't get cold feet, yet.

I fear I may have to invest in some proper winter/waterproof/goretex footwear at some point. I hate getting trenchfoot on rides... probably will happen.

I love this country to bits, but the weather in autumn can sod off. This Autumn, anyway. When I were a lad I remember great big piles of DRY leaves to jump around in. And they didn't all contain a mountain of dog crap either...

Bring back dry autumns plzkthx.

saw a cyclist wipe off a pedestrian today! he was on the ground she was on the ground with her face covered in pain.. what a dumbo! who jumps into the road without looking!! grrr I hate pedestrians.

glad I took a different side of the bus before he wiped her out.

I almost took someone out coming back towards Hammersmith bridge the other day. Was doing 25mph+ through green lights. One ped steps out, then sees me, and another further along the road steps out and continues across. Cue me shouting profanities while swerving onto the far side of my lane. Thankfully she stopped crossing in time. Would not have been pretty for either of us otherwise.

A guy I work with has a pair of northwave boots with gotetex which are supposed to be super waterproof. They cost like £120 or something!

Had a pretty good weekend. Spent Saturday cleaning my bike, and then Sunday getting it absolutely filthy again!
Felt on good form during the group ride yesterday (47 miler), seems the extra protein in my diet is starting to work. Average speed was 2mph faster than the rest of the group. It's a good feeling as this time last year, it took a lot of effort to keep up with the group, now I seem to be improving past them.
Conditions weren't great, pretty windy, and annoying drizzle that got us drenched.
One of the chaps had a puncture coming down a descent, and his replacement tube exploded, splitting the tyre at the same time. Fortunately, one of the riders and small piece of old tyre in his saddle bag (god know why!). So we glue it over the split, and it worked surprisingly well.
