To cruise past people in Team Sky kit pushing bikes 5 times as expensive as mine up hills?
22500km and they have visible wear.

Got a doctors appointment on 24th to get things started with having my knee looked at. I think I'll pay for the MRI scan myself because on the NHS last time it took nearly 2 years start to finish.
I think I know what the procedure is going to be though, having been through this twice before... See GP, be put on waiting list to see consultant, then I can book the MRI scan, back on waiting list for consultant again, then on the next waiting list for any actions.
So timescales are probably MRI scan in 3-6 months time, probably another 3 months for a second appointment with the consultant, then however long for whatever they decide is the best course of action. And I'm basically off the bike for all that time. Ugh
Get private healthcare and then go through that process?
Also worth noting even if MRI scan shows something surgery may not be the answer and it might be a case of just living with it.
Since I broke my tibial plateau I have pain fairly often but MRI scans physio etc have not shown anything. Surgeon said he could operate but there are risks etc etc thats after 2 second opinions.

I can't recall what the problem with your knee is but have you seriously exhausted the SMR & Mobility route first? (rolling, flossing, tacking, stretching etc)
A lot of joint & muscular ailments would be easily fixed by people giving their joints and musculature the TLC they need on a regular basis.
It might not completely cure your problem but it could well improve it dramatically.

Sweet my new tools have arrived with a shimano bleed kit for the brakes. Couldn't find a bunch of stuff finishing off the build so just bought some new tools. Task for the weekend is sort out the toolbag and throw out all the old rubbish.

I have the same bleed kit as the one in the picture and I'm pretty sure you can remove the plunger of the smaller syringe and use that instead (the end is threaded like the shimano cup)

Ah, good stuff. I should get round to ordering a proper kit to be honest.
Using the syringe to do a bottom-up bleed is much easier (or at least much quicker) than doing a mavity bleed, especially for the rear caliper. I'd certainly recommend getting one for the next time you have to bleed them.

Yeah. The second bleed I did on the rear caliper was a massive pain in the arse to be honest. The first time (when not replacing fluid) was a lot easier.

That really does seem like an age mate! But surely during that time they won't be doing anything physically to you so you can continue with no ill effects?
You're right about going the private route to avoid some of the NHS ballache but I would probably recommend a private consultancy first, occasionally they may push some of it onto the NHS for you (rather than you seeing the NHS). A bit like a shortcut!

Finding a partner that can put up with the amount of time I'm out on my bike, is challenging enough!

I'm not kidding, I broke one of the calipers
Near the end step when holding the leaver and releasing air bubbles in pulses. The yellow block slipped and made the pistons come out at an angle, instant cracking sound and oil weeping out around the piston. On inspection the piston had cracked from the uneven pressure. It looks like the ceramic pistons are fairly delicate with several other reports of similar happening. One was on a test bike with the brake just riding slightly high on the disc, was enough pressure difference over the piston to crack it mid-ride.
I can't find any spare pistons sold separately so might have to get a whole new caliper at €50
Yes, we both found it difficult. We live in a hilly area so any ride starts or ends with a climb which isn't ideal for a beginner. She also, for some reason, refuses to ride in front so I can stay offset behind and make sure cars etc give us enough room. I didn't want her to be buzzed by a car on our narrow roads. I think it's a confidence thing of following someone rather than leading.
We haven't ridden together a lot in the past 6 years, however she has expressed an interest in hiring a bike next time we are in Mallorca so not all is lost yet. We are going to try again in the spring to get some rides in together before we go.
I find a Cafe and cake stop helped, find an easy route, try and see different places and to class the time as together time not a training session for me.
