Everyone waited for me just over the top which was nice but I feel massively guilty for making them get cold and/or bored. :(

That's why group riding makes you faster I guess, good motivation not to be dropped/slow people down :p

n00b question, but I assume you need rim tape for carbon clinchers? The one I've bought doesn't have any.

Just a thing we're planning. It'll be a similar route to last year (only with an extra 100 miles tacked on). I might increase it slightly to make it a quintuple metric... You'd be more than welcome along for some or all of it :)

Cool, sounds good. I'm very keen to finally crack the 200 mile mark this year after doing 197 in 2014, 300 is something else though! I'm trying to find the cojones to sign up for a 12 hour TT but might try a 50mi and 100mi first, baby steps and all that.

Yup - all the carbon clinchers I've seen required rim tape (though also came with it).

I think 300 shouldn't be too much harder than 200 was, mostly because I won't make the same mistake about not fuelling enough towards the end and that two of us will be on PMs, so we can pace ourselves properly.

Famous last words... :p

50/100 mile TTs sound pretty fun. Knackering as all hell though.

Rim tape is to stop the tube catching in the spoke holes, or on the end of the spokes, so unless it were totally sealed in there in some way, then I'd assume you need it.

Haven't come with bands have they? Mine were tucked away deep in the box when I got my last set of wheels.

50 mile TTs are bad enough! :D

Certainly got me thinking...

I just went out with the local shop club ride https://www.strava.com/activities/532000220/overview

Synapse is a very very nice bike. Easily as comfortable as the Roubaix, soooo smooth, but not sure how much of that is down to 28c tyres, think the Roubaix came with 25s.

I don't have my torque wrench as I gave it to a guy at work today, but the seat dropped a bit during the ride, which didn't help. Have cranked it up a bit now on the clamp... hopefully it's not gonna break on me/fall down on saturday.
Di2 is also nice. Or maybe it's just ultegra compared to my 5700 105. No Front Derailleur rubbing, just nice smooth changes. Going up and down the Cassette with whatever sprockets they have was much smoother compared to my 11-32 10 speed. No nasty jumps around 18mph where I can never quite find the most comfortable gear.

I love this bike. I don't love that it doesn't have any way of mounting guards.. that might go against it, but it's certainly comfortable. And it didn't seem slow, except uphill, but that's probably because I was on it and I was knackered.

But not knowing what's around the corner is kinda putting me off getting something now.

Cracking looking ride! Well done on the PRs. Glad you enjoyed the Synapse. Doesn't sound like it's making the Roubaix/Synapse decision any easier though!

The Di2 thing was probably a mix of Ultegra beating 5700 105, and it just being so smooth on the gear shifts. I just want it for the front derailleur action!

I was wondering today: What do people use to wash their cycling kit? Hand wash? Washing machine? What detergent?

My kit just gets washed on 20 degrees with non-bio detergent and I throw in a capful of Dettol antibacterial laundry wash. Seems to keep everything in good shape.

Nah, I bought them second hand so guessing the last owner either took the bands off or didn't fit tape for whatever reason. Will pick some up at lunch.

Back safe and sound from Mallorca.
<snip>
Overall, fabulous time 132 miles, 12300ft of climbing and 5000 calories.
Can't wait to return.
Good to hear! Well ridden & well done, how were the winds and the weather?
Whelp...date booked for my 300 mile audaux. 18th of June.

If anyone nearish wants to join us for some or all of it feel free :) Starting just before lunch time on the 18th...back home around midnight on the 19th
What's the route again?
@ Roady, that DCR website looks really good. Might have a good read of stuff there, then make up my mind. So much choice!
He's one of the most respected wheelbuilders around and many online forums all point towards him as being one of the best in the UK. He's very knowledgeable guy who's been doing it for many years, although he has quite a backlog of builds (3-4 months) he will happily chat via email about anything wheel related. I've had my quote through for the following:
  • Kinlin 31t rims 20 spoke front 24 rear
  • CX-Ray black spokes with black alloy nipples
  • DT Swiss 350 hubs
  • £500
  • cheaper hub option (his DCR branded) -£90 or PMP hubs for +£50
My rough calc: (2*£55 rims, 2*£50 (2x20)spokes, £200 hubs) = £410. So around £80 for the build (factoring in a few spokes, QR's & nipples for the other £10).
Awesome ride, well done! Irn bru! Stereotype much?! :D:p
WTFBBQ @ what he's riding?! Just assumed he'd be on a road/TT bike for the speed!:rolleyes:

That's pretty damn good. I'm thinking I'll go back to the drawing board, and look at some really good quality hubs (something in that DT Swiss price range). Anything else can be rebuilt/replaced generally. But I feel like the hub has to last!

Yeah..that might have been the exact words we said...but time heals all wounds. Especially broken knees and bruised sit bones :)

It was a nice route to be honest. Just a painful amount of miles.

How many stops are you planning? What will you be doing to prepare? I can imagine at the 100mi mark you're going to be pretty sore and uncomfortable already.
