Awesome stuff! Get the opposite here... Drivers overtaking @20mph swinging to the left than slamming on their brakes due to the queue of traffic in front... Which I then overtake.

it's because you're a dirty cyclist! how dare you use the road space made for the godly drivers! you don't even have a license, insurance, emission tax, airbags or common sense to drive a car!!

Aha. That is by far the exception... most of the time we get the same experience here apart from even less traffic is actually moving :p

I don't even pay road tax! Have that car drivers!

I'm a slow old man now ;) gone are the days where I kept pushing. :D
You're lost to me now. It's over.

Yeah, most of the climbs I do here I sit in 34-20, and slowly drop to the 34-28 as it gets hard. Even then I feel like I need more. But I don't really want an 11-32.

Not going to change to a semi-compact. Don't think I'd manage it.

I've had the road tax comment before and looked down at their car and realised I probably pay triple or double the amount of VED they pay :D (£490 :() Some seem to look surprised that a cyclist could even own a car.

Good going OMS! Think we should heed your advice a little more! :D;)

Looking at OMS's 10mi PB over the weekend, he averaged 28.7mph, 93 cadence and rode a 20:56.

Impressive!

Thanks very much chaps. :) I was really pleased with it but equally I think I can go quicker on a better day and having ridden the course once. I would love to go sub-20 and made me think it's maybe not as far off as I thought. :) Apparently most people were about a minute slower on the weekend than on the previous event held on Good Friday so just shows you what a difference the day can make.

And Roady, even my wife doesn't listen to what I say so I don't expect you lot to! :D

A penis in a pickup Transit thing nearly smashed me the other night rushing past me on approach to a roundabout, I put my hand in the air to show I wasn't best pleased and he stopped beside me to have a debate....
I told him he nearly hit me and he said "well, what the hell am I supposed to do, just wait behind you?"
I said, "well, yes.... I am using the road, just like you, and the 2 seconds you saved by dangerously flying past me you have just lost again by stopping to argue with me".
His passenger smiled, turned and looked at him and said "well, he's totally right and got you there hasn't he?" and the driver just calmly looked forward and drove off without another word.

I won :)

Same, although my current is quite cheap (1.6 Fiesta Zetec-S) compared to my previous (A3 2L TDI Quattro & Focus ST170). Older age 'helps' too! (by not feeling like I need as fast a car! Do loads less miles too after a job change!) ;)

Fiesta did ~3,600 miles first year I had it (going from what the MOT's read) and bike did ~3,200 over the same period. This year I'll beat it! The car did Inverness & back (500+ miles each way) which it wouldn't normally do! :D

Yeah. I'm really considering chopping the car (Mazda 3 MPS) in for something a bit slower and more practical (cheaper!) for longer distances. Although I do enjoy it when I get out on some country roads... but generally when the weather is nice for that I'd rather be cycling!

I'm hoping to do the CBT and motorbike tests soon as well. I guess if I do that I might have acceleration fun covered by a motorbike and won't feel so bad about downgrading car power. I barely even use my car in London - it's mostly for longer trips back home and into surrounding counties. I certainly did more miles on my bicycle last year than the car, and definitely done more cycling miles this year too.

I love how his passenger totally backed you up and owned him. Usually they back the driver up.

I've gone further than that and thought about the fact that roads are paid for out of general taxation. I'm not exactly coining it, but I know I'm in the something somethingth percentile for income, so odds are I'm doing more for the upkeep of the roads than some berk in a ten year old Renault.

Although I imagine asking someone how much they earn at the lights would be a great way to get thumped.

Ahahaha! That would be a funny conversation or something along the lines of "My bike is worth more than your car"

what are you getting?

And other people asking about my Cyclescheme bike...

  • Genesis Flyer 2016 single speed bike. Looks awesome, comes with mudguards, slightly easier gearing than I'm currently using. I'm putting in a price match request to knock £25 off... Wish me luck.
  • M520 pedals. Standard.
  • 2 bottle cages. Exciting.
  • Lezyne mini pump bracket. I've already got a black one, but black won't match, so I'm getting a silver one!
  • Silver rack. Again, I've got a black one, but it has to match! I'm also trying to price match this as Wiggle have it cheaper...
  • Vaude Silkroad S rack bag. For taking lunch in without needing to use my panniers, then I can just use them once a week to ferry clothes back and forth.
  • Shorts. Two pairs.
  • Socks. 3 pairs.
  • Overshoes. My current ones are coming apart.
  • Decent packable jacket. Hopefully better than the £10 one from Decathlon that I keep in reserve!
  • Shimano RT82 touring shoes. Going one size up because lol Shimano shoes. Mama didn't raise no fool. Price matching these as well!
  • Multitool to round out my certificate value.

It'll all be going ahead as soon as I get the price match confirmations on the bike and the rack.
