Road Cycling

Anyone spotted many BF deals? Grabbed myself a helmet yesterday lunchtime from Sigma along with some Castelli tights and a cassette for the Turbo. Not dug that deeply through too many others yet...

Had a bit of a lie down on the afternoon commute yesterday too. Not really even sure why, maybe a bit too much speed but I wasn't late so fairly sure I've done the same corner at higher speeds. Cold weather is over so can't have been that. Thought then it was a pedal strike but looking back at the camera footage don't hear one. Weird. Front wheel wiped out, down onto left shoulder landing onto my front. Scuffed knee, left quad, hands and even marks on my helmet. But right hand hurts, thumb socket the worst so think that was main impact somehow with my left side. My gilet (high-viz gabba) has quite oily black looking road grime on it, so think there must have been something there. Doesn't smell like fuel. Meh. Did 2x Zwift TTT's in the evenings so legs where good just awkward holding bars. Defo some more aches today after sleeping on it! https://www.strava.com/activities/16588993606

Ended up bailing and just did 100km which hopefully leaves me with time to get out again for a few decent rides later in the week.
Good effort, well done! Those climbs look pretty meaty & long as well!

haven't been here for a while but i see as weather got colder, days shorter, there is less bike talk...

i've been getting ready for Hyrox, and with new'ish job, had no time or will to cycle... bring on December when I will try to introduce bike back to the routine..
Ready for Hyrox? Thought that was just a type of Crossfit training rather than anything specific? Or that the one they put on TV? Goodluck anyway!

Yeah cycling pretty miserable for a couple of weeks here... Although yesterday we had warm weather and get a few days of it now?! Wet+warmer. Went from -6 to +12 between my morning commutes Weds & Thurs mornings. Typical crazyness

Ouch regarding spill, hope you and bike gear are ok today!

wash your mouth with soap saying it's crossfit !!!

kidding, i'm not that converted.

its very much a time race requiring a lot of endurance and running and some strenght...crossfit is a lot of technique based excercises
i can do strenght...endurance is the hard bit :cry:

Hyrox is fun, did a couples event with someone as his mate dropped out. But I go to a gym for conditioning classes (lots of mixed exercises, strength and cardio). Still learning what the beef is between Hyrox and CrossFit! At least Hyrox doesnt do those silly pull up things.

I'd say that's definitely helped my cycling, but I mainly do it for the long term benefits (into older age)

the beef is that it's the new "trendy" workout / way of working out.. so crossfitters feel a bit left out :D

Ah got it. Well within minutes of starting the Hyrox, I immediately realised it's a runners event really. If you're a strong runner, and have decent cardio, and relatively good strength - you'll do well. If you're a jacked gym beefcake - not so much. Me and my mate did 1:00.23 (technically add two minutes as we got a penalty, but it cost us time too, so we would have gone sub 1 hour). We both a NOT strong looking 'gym' people, so it was funny to be thrashing all these gym go-ers doing the event topless and looking all buff.
That was my take from it anyway.

i always was more of a strenght man and prefer deadlifts and squats
started some running late last year so will deffo not be a quick for me and wont be close to 1h mark.
endurance is my weak spot and burpees are just a killer
but will see.
considering this a challenge

Crossfit was the original exercise cult and Hyrox is the new exercise cult. Both of them its strongly encouraged to make them your whole personality and I think that once you reach a certain level of muscle you aren't allowed to wear a t-shirt for either.

Had my first go at taking my gravel bike off road today. First dog walker I met said "you're brave"... The first few miles was water logged mud that resulted in wheel spin at anything over 100w, lots of sliding around too. I eventually make it to the gravel that goes around the mountain bike site and I can finally make some progress and tried the path the other side of the train tracks home which was a lot less technical. Spent an hour and half in total of which a significant amount was in zone 1, so not the best workout but a lot of good fun and we had lovely blue skies this morning too! Got home and the bike is covered in mud so spent the next hour hosing it down. I'm not sure I'm going to make this a regular thing unless I know it is dry out.

Anyone spots the Castelli RoS 2 vest or Perfetto in hi-viz yellow in Large let me know. Looks almost like the classic 'Gabba' gilet/vest is now phased out? Hardly any of them around. Seem to be short sleeved now and or going Orange instead of fluo yellow...

Not too bad, was glad I did the 2 x Zwift TTT's in the evening. Pretty sore Friday. Did a bunch of DIY and stuff on the weekend and my shoulder feeling pretty stiff. Actually really bad today when trying to raise my arms much above level, not sure if the ~5 hours of Lego building, ~3 hours of using a sander or 2 hours of Zwift racing yesterday is to blame! My bumps and scrapes all scabbed up and not bad now, right thumb did swell up and figured I'd maybe fractured it. But still had good strength gripping with it, just not twisting or rolling. Like I could hold a pen ok, but not actually write very well... Swelling went down in 24h, but it's now gone an off yellow colour

Haha, have to admit I googled it and was an eye opener. I figured Hyrox was the 'gym-pro' kinda one and Crossfit more the group/friends thing, but it's the other way around along with them being quite different events. Crossfit more specific strength and cross training of various different routines. Hyrox more endurance with a run between each exercise and more focus on leg based, so good fatigue resistance and endurance.

I always figured 'Hyrox' the event in an arena for competition and spectators to go see. Kinda like how Ironman is to Triathlon. I guess it is in a way, but more different sports and an event.

Great for that, but also how many types of cross sport exercises (in moderation) can boost cycling performance. Most cyclists can benefit from core exercises and find more strength on the bike with it, not to mention building up some other less used muscles to balance against the cycling ones. Aids recovery, avoiding injury & any muscle growth as we get older is good. Must do more myself - fairly reliable on a bike, but will suffer for days after doing something arm/back based like logging/chainsaw work for a few hours... Have the cardio, just not the muscle mass so always hurt myself.

Haha you're south wales, probably pretty similar to here - more CX this time of year than 'gravel'! Gotta cycle through the mud to get to the gravel... If you can even find any! ;)

Signed up for Etape Caledonia 85 mile route in May and having a week up in Scotland with the other half after - great excuse to get somewhere new and it looks stunning (assuming its a dry day!)

It’s good fun, it’s dirty and sketchy but I enjoy it..
